The Wig and Gown, Highbury

Completely renovated into a rock pub. Classic rock on the stereo, reasonably priced booze, and a foosball table into the bargain.
A great option for beers before a gig at The Garage. Shame not many people seem to have discovered it.

The Edinboro Castle, Camden

It's interesting looking back on the comments for this pub that date back to 2003. They all complain about the slow staff. You would think that at some point they would have sorted this out but in the years I've been sporadically coming here it's never changed.
Shame as it's a nice pub with a great garden and BBQ in the summer. I was here on Saturday night and the last of us to go to the bar was gone for 20 minutes. We ended up going to the Dublin Castle which was heaving with people and got served almost straight away.

Backstage, Brixton

Went in here before a gig at the academy as the other pubs in Brixton had just got too depressing.
I'm sad to say this wasn't any better. Essentially a small, featureless room with a bar, I waiting an age to get served as they'd run out of change only to be given a lukewarm Corona and told to pick my own slice of lime out of a bowl on the bar. Needless to say I went without.
My friend and I came to the conclusion that drinking inside the Academy was more preferable, at least the beer was cold.

Goose, Brixton

This place makes a Wetherspoons pub look like a quaint country pub.
Essentially a huge bright room with random furniture dotted about it. The punters are either gig goers or dodgy locals who eye you suspicously when you walk past.
The toilets are beyond comment and if you can get served in under 10 minutes you're a better man than I. Seriously, I walked out the last time after being ignored about six times in favour of people who came to the bar after me.
Yes it's cheap but the adage 'you get what you paid for' has never been so fitting. Find somewhere else.

The Enterprise, Chalk Farm

My favourite pub in London. The sort of place where you could find an emo kid chatting to an old guy reading The Racing Post.
The music is almost always great if you like your guitars (old or new). The atmosphere is great and the bar staff are very easy on the eye.
God bless The Enterprise.

The Arkley Hotel, Barnet

Much like a hotel bar, polite decor and very little atmosphere. It's more the sort of place you'd pop to for a quick drink than a night out.
The Wed and Sun quiz used to be very good though I haven't been for some time plus the food isn't bad .

The After Office Hours, Barnet

I have to give credit to the current owners for turning a repeat failure of a bar into a busy nightspot.
However to me it's a bit like an endless wedding reception. It's just very...polite. Live jazz, finger food, no one under 25 etc. I keep expecting a relative to come up and tell me how much I've grown.
You'll either love it or you'll hate it.
