The Duke of Kent, Ealing

In response to KPF - I have seen various guises of management to be officious here in the past and that does lead to an awkward atmosphere. Having said that the current bar staff are very friendly and keen to chat and make you feel welcome. Food quality is good and the portions tend to be large- we usually end up sharing a starter or not having one so there is room for the main course. Recently had a venison steak which was the best I have had anywhere. Atmosphere is thin until the place gets crowded. Garden is a great draw in the summer. They could do with a couple of good guest ales beyond Fullers for variety.

Duffy's, North Ealing

Good range of beers - I always enjoy the Tribute. The food has been variable in the past but is definitely very good at the moment - they try to support local producers and suppliers which is appreciated. Bar staff clearly take pride in their work, service is always prompt and if there is a delay because of a long round before you they acknowledge you are there. I don't go in that often but one in particular knows my "usual". Can't understand other negative comments on this page about the locals - I've always found them willing to chat and have a laugh with.

The Green Dragon, Marlborough

Food was very good and good value - a rich, mouthwatering beef pie. Service for food was polite and prompt. Beer disappointing - think I got the end of the barrel and should have asked to change it. Having said that the barman noticed it was cloudy when it was served and did nothing about it. Good atmosphere for a Friday lunchtime.

The Raven, Poulshot

Good range of well kept beers served direct from the barrel behind the bar. Good menu with some dishes beyond the norm. The chickpea, chorizo and garlic starter was delicious but very filling when followed up with the tasty fish crumble. Service very friendly and smiley. Would definitely be on my list to go back to and worth going out of the way for - some good walks from the doorstep to work off the big lunch.

George & Dragon, Potterne

Comment of trevorb was right but that was under (shortlived) management. New management has made a great difference. We went on a Friday night and enjoyed good home cooked food (I had lasagne, my wife a beef casserole) and friendly, chatty bar staff. We were visitors to the area and were made very welcome. They stock a good organic bottled cider and several well kept beers. The 6x was especially good. The draft scrumpy was good too. We also went on Sunday night and were greeted like old friends. They don't serve food after 6 on a Sunday (although did go out of their way to find something delicious for us when we got there at 6.30).
