The Portsmouth Arms, Basingstoke

Nice pint of Furkin Fox, food was ok and service quick. Does get busy and lots of young families in the beer garden on a nice day,

The Walkabout, Newquay

Nice view but that's about it. This place is basically a drink warehouse designed to accommodate the packs of young men and women on stag weekends. If you like good beer don't bother, if you like cheap industrial lager and sticky floors this is the place for you!

Falcon Inn, St Mawgan

Stayed nearby and visited this pub after looking at the good reviews. Totally agree, good beer, good food and pleasant staff. Will definitely go back!

The Phoenix, Watergate Bay

First time back here after a 2 year break, Food ok but a bit pricey, beer also ok again a bit pricey but average for the area.

The New Inn, Salisbury

Nice cosy pub, good beer and friendly staff.

Ox Row, Salisbury

Average city centre pub. Most other places were rammed full but this wasn't on a Friday night. Bar staff weren't overly cheerful bt the beer/whisky was fine.

The Haunch of Venison, Salisbury

Part of a pre-Christmas pub crawl I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Very small bar area but service was good beer was fine and a good selection of single malts. Can imagine it's a real hit with the tourists with the many floors and small rooms etc. Can't comment on the food as I didn't eat here but will be going back.

The Kings Head, Salisbury

As part of a party of 11 we sat in a corner on a sofa type seat which looked as though it had been slashed with a knife.A couple of locals took exception to the fact we were talking louder than a whisper and muttered various oathes before leaving and calling us arseholes. Apart from this minor distraction typical Wetherspoons, acceptable beer and reasonably priced, no complaints.

18 Dec 2010 21:57

The Cat Tavern, Salisbury

Bit dubious when I first went in but to be honest, ignore the slightly tatty interior and this is a decent pub. Friendly Bar Maid and locals were also welcoming. Had 2 pints of Solstice bitter which weren't bad. Would definitely go back.

Watership Down, Freefolk Priors

On first sight not a bad village pub. However, visited yesterday and the beer was below average. You can't normally go wrong with a Ringwood Best but this was swan necked at it's average. Also the pub was full of young Mums feeding their babes whist having a coffee and blokes who had obviously told the missus they were taking the dog for a walk! Get your beer right and it wouldn't really matter!

The Eclipse Inn, Winchester

This pub totally fits it's location and is a pleasant little place with "Old World" charm. Good beer, Ringwood Old Thumper was well kept. Barmaid needed to cheer up a bit though.

14 Apr 2010 21:31

Old Gaol House, Winchester

Typical 'Spoons with the usual mix of ne'er do wells and students. Good selection of beers, lots of Ringwood. Food was distinctly average but the staff very friendly.

14 Apr 2010 21:27

The Albion, Winchester

God knows what had happened the night before to warrant the extra strong smell of bleach that hit you as you entered the pub. Beer was ok but the stereotype local drunks at the bar might not be quite as friendly as the evening goes on methinks! Having said that I would go back.

The Ship and Shovell, Charing Cross

Nice little pub, well 2 pubs really split by the passage outside. Nice place to go for a decent pint of Badger Beer and have a chat. No music, unobtrusive TV in the corner, well worth a visit if in need of a pint in the Charing Cross area.

The Old Shades, Whitehall

A good pub right in the centre of London. Does a fine breakfast and has a good selection of real ale which is very well kept. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere very pleasant. Watch the trip to the Gents though the steps begin straight after the door! Does tend to get alot of tourists but this is quite amusing as they are totally unfamiliar with pub etiquette ie going to the bar and ordering/paying.

14 Mar 2010 20:39

The Queens Arms, Hereford

Popped in for a pint pre-dinner. 2 old but friendly drunks at the bar. No Ales on offer and the flowers was off. Barman recommended not having the wine (at least he was honest). There's always a need for places like this, keeps the pikeys out of the decent pubs!

27 Jan 2010 19:57

The White Horse, Parsons Green

Call in here both before and after the football. Good, fast service at the bar and great selection of real ales and also a large number of Belgian beers. The Barbecue outside does a really good bacon and cheese burger to helpsoakup the beer. The only criticism is the lack of places to sit inside due to tables being reserved, fair enough on a normal day but match day the place is heaving. Well worth a visit (not cheap though).

The Weyhill Fair, Weyhill

Used to be my local many years ago and was a busy thriving pub. Went in for a pint on a Saturday lunchtime and the place was less than half full. Beer was good and priced ok but I wonder why it has lost it's popularity.

30 Dec 2009 19:22

The Golden Lion, Viables

Went along to watch the football Saturday evening. Only other punters there were lads on their way back from playing footie. Was happy to see Ringwood Best on the pumps but it was swan necked so all froth and no taste! Staff friendly enough but the placelacked a welcoming atmosphere, shame as it could be a decent boozer with a large catchment area as nothing else really local.

30 Dec 2009 19:19

The Talbot Inn, Ripley

Stayed here on business. Disappointed with the selection of ale, first one we tried was off and was replaced by an average pint of Abbot Ale.Food was very good and staff polite and helpful. Felt a bit sorry for the lager drinkers who had to pay 5 for a pint of Peroni!

5 Nov 2009 18:00

Old Bell & Crown, Hatherden

Nice country pub. Very friendly Landlord, clean traditional surroundings.3 Wadworths beers on, the Henrys was very good.Food reasonable and good quality. Will definitely pay another visit soon. Why wasn't it like this whenI usd to live down the road?!

5 Nov 2009 17:55

The Royal Oak, Charlton

Used to live in Charlton and this was my local. Went back recently, disappointed with choice and quality of ale. Food looked ok though, unfortunately didn't have time to try it.

10 Oct 2009 19:29

The Royal Oak, Basingstoke

Ok pub, friendly staff and a good place to go to watch the football. Stick to the lager though as the "real ales" I tried were definitely on the turn.

10 Oct 2009 19:11

The Wheatsheaf, North Waltham

Typical chain. No decent beers. Had a seafood platter to start which was average. Main course was scallops and black pudding with a fennel salad. Worst meal I've had in a long time, the unpleasantness lasted through to the next day.

9 Oct 2009 21:59

The Three Magpies, Sells Green

We stayed with friends at the campsite next door. We had booked a table for Saturday night. On arrival no record of booking, the pub was packed but the young waitress did her best to seat us as soon as she could. Unfortunately next to about 20 shrieking women celebrating a birthday. Beer was good but food distinctly average even for a pub and not good value for money. If I pay 8 for cod and chips you don't want frozen heated up!

9 Oct 2009 21:52

The Blackbird, Earls Court

Top rate boozer. Usually go before/after football (tempted to go during sometimes!) good beer, landlord is a good bloke. They really need to put chip butties on the menu as we can't all afford the pies and beer as well! Cheers and come on you Blues!!

18 Jul 2009 20:52

The Bierodrome, Kingsway

Spent a couple of afternoons here and very pleasant it was too. Great selection of beers but not cheap. Staff happy to have a chat at the bar, altogether I would recommend it for a Belgian session!

18 Jul 2009 20:47

The Maidenhead Inn, Basingstoke

This tends to be a regular haunt as it's the nearest I get to a local in Basingstoke. The beer is good and cheap which unfortunately does tend to attract a variety of low life during the day, however they are replaced by groups of hard working students in the evening drinking jugs of blue stuff or bottles of lager before moving on to the clubs etc where the drinks are a lot more expensive. Shame as it could be a really nice boozer.

18 Jul 2009 20:41

The Carpenters Arms, Windsor

Popped in after a tour round the castle.Had a nice pint (well 2 actually) of Landlord. Staff friendly and the food was not bad and good value for money. The only criticim on the day was my wife went to use the toilets and they were totally disgusting, bit off putting to say the least!

18 Jul 2009 20:32

Travellers Rest, Trevarrian

Stopped off here for a Sunday roast and it was very good.Plenty of fresh veg and nicely cooked meat delivered quickly to 2 hungry diners! Good local beer available and good service, will definitely go back next year.

12 Jul 2009 19:38

The Phoenix, Watergate Bay

Been going to Watergate for the past 4 years. The phoenix has always been a regular haunt.Good beer (local) and the food is good although not as good as last year and the menu has shrunk considerably,I'llput it down to the fact we went a bit earlier this year. Staff ok but could cheer up a bit and a tip for the young man behind the bar, don't stop mid-way through pouring the pint of the punter who has just spent 30 on food etc just to see to the young bit of totty asking about the internet connection!! Not good customer service!

12 Jul 2009 19:35

The Beach Hut, Watergate Bay

Just come back from a week at Watergate Bay and visited the Beach Hut twice. The food was excellent and good value on both occasions, you would struggle to eat 3 courses though as the portion sizes are on the large side!! A selection of local beers (bottled) and a good cider available.Fantastic views across the bay and out to sea. Service was very good, quick and friendly although whenI pointed out the white wine we were served was warm all I was offered was a glass full of ice cubes!! Will stillgo back though!

12 Jul 2009 19:27

The Fox, North Waltham

An excellent pub. Beer is well kept and the food very good. There is a typicalpub bar, not recommended if you don't like dogs. The restaurant is seperate. We have been a few times and never disappointed. The annual Oyster Festival held in the car park is well worth a visit, 10 real ales, fantastic venison burgers and of course oysters.

15 May 2009 15:15

The Poplar Farm Inn, Andover

The actual pub itself is nice and the beer acceptable, a nice pint of Ringwood Best. However the food was probably the worst I've had in a long time. The service was slow after we were told the lunchtime menu left on our table was unvailable we chose fromthe main menu. Nothing complicated, shepherds Pie, chicken and chips etc. It took an hour and a half to come and the quality was awful. We asked to see the Manager and after some pressing the 18 year old who served us said he was actually the Manager! We got some of our money refunded but we had to work for it! Shan't be going back!
