The Walrus Bar and Hostel, Waterloo

The management of the Walrus changed a little over a year ago. Since then (and since my prevous comments about this place), this has become one of my regular haunts. great friendly service, regularly cleared tables, clean toilets and they have a Carling tap that can pour a pint in 7 seconds.
Now the staff know what I drink, I literally have a mouthful of beer typically within 9 seconds of walking in. Not a bad claim to fame for a pub in Lambeth. Would recommend it to any type of drinker - whether you prefer wine bars or old style boozers..

Imbibe, Southwark

Had our company Christmas meal and party there in december 2005.
The food was good, the service better and once the tables had been cleared away, the music, service and staff made for a great night. Not sure I'd want to go there in a group of two or three, but for a party, it's spot on.

Cubana Waterloo, Waterloo

If you like standard beer, served in all the other Waterloo boozers, then either steer clear or drink cocktails!
Open later than other establishments in the area, and sells cigars. Over priced and not particularly good, but then if it's payday and you're drinking Long Island Iced teas by the barrell... what's a few quid on a cigar to round the evening off?

The Reef Bar, Waterloo

Bad service, beer tastes somehow iffy. But if your missus needs to hear sounds of the train station during the "honest, I'm on my way home" check in chat, it's OK for a swift couple before your train is "delayed and I don't know why"...

The Camel & Artichoke, Waterloo

Worse than useless. Thinks it's a city wine bar with a nice EC1 or WC1 postcode. It's not. It's the Hyancinth Buckett of pubs. Still based in the same street surrounded by the same people, yet with a bit of a polish and a minimalist dcor it won't talk to them any more.
I used to drink there a lot, but after the recent refurb and apparent change of management, it's gone down the loo.
Don't go there.

The Crown and Cushion, Waterloo

I've been drinking here for a little over four years.
I disagree that the other pubs in the area are better i.e. Walrus, the Horse and certainly not the Elusive Camel (Elusive Service would be more accurate).
The Crown is a little dingy and it does smell of beer, but then it's a PUB and not an old pub revamped to become a wine bar.
The service in the Crown is warm and friendly. As it is a pub and not a bar, you don't have to drink with your little finger sticking out and the beer is always well-poured and cold. The food is pub grub. Nothing more and nothing less.
If you like a proper pub, with a local feel, yet open to all, go to the Crown.
As for T Bone, he's an old perv who always tries to give men "the sniff"... But then like the odour of beer and dust on the pictures/floors/walls - it's part of the dying pub culture. Although I wish he'd pick on someone else!
Try the Crown once. If you don't like it, don't go back. If you do, you'll be back again and again.
