The Gate, Ifield

I went in there on Sunday evening with a friend on the recommendation of a local. It is probably the friendliest and most hospitable pub I've ever been to in the UK. The menu is mouthwatering and although we only had a light meal, I saw the quality of some of the other meals.
This is a real 'olde English' pub, unspoilt and well run, and was a delightful find.
I look forward to going back for a full meal during the week.

The Bricklayers Arms, Hersham

Enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch there, good value and quality.

Unfortunately I will never go back there, and I will do my best to ensure that none of my local friends do either, as they refused to serve me a glass of water with the meal, although we had paid over 40 for food and drinks. Apparently this is the policy of the landlord, who was not there for me to tell him my view on this.

Bottled water is extremely harmful to the environment and an unnecessary affectation. If I choose to drink tapwater I strongly resent someone refusing to provide me with it.

Greyfisher, Salisbury

The only good thing I can say is that food was available at 4pm on a weekday afternoon. Cheap and trying to be cheerful menu. Our order was taken incorrectly because the bar attendant was too busy trying to participate in a conversation with a colleague, we therefore took lower priority. Staff not exactly overfriendly, clearly lacking in motivation. When I pointed out that we'd been overcharged the correction was handled with bad grace. Reasonable value for money but they won't see me again as there is too much good competition in the area.

Horse and Groom, Woodgreen

We had a couple of dinners here in the summer and immediately noticed the friendly atmosphere and appreciated the orginal and well prepared food.

On the basis of this good experience I organised a family lunch for 16 people last Saturday. From the first contact right through to the enjoyment of the meal, with the help of chef Simon Edwards who prepared a superb and mouthwatering menu for us, it was a pleasure to deal with these people.

The pub is rustic, nothing fancy or pretentious, friendly, efficient, and well situated. We had a very pleasant afternoon and it was excellent value. Thank you.
