The Castle, Walthamstow

Fake/ malicious reviews aside this pub is fine. Well worth the 2 min walk from Orford Rd. Beer selection is good with at least 2 handpump ales on.
The Monday night quiz though is fantastic. I've been to a fair few in London, and this is definitely the best. The quiz master actually knows what he's talking about ~which makes a nice change!~ and the rounds are varied and well thought out. They also do a homemade curry for about 6.

The Harp, Covent Garden

An excellent small, busy pub with the best changing selection of real cider and perry I've found in London. They do great sausages too, can't ask for more! And they have invented a time machine, whose operation is achieved by mounting the stairs!

The Alwyne Castle, Islington

Yes, the service is dreadful. Yes, the bar staff change from week to week. And yes, the food ordering system involves having to describe your table's geographical location in minute detail so they can work out which table number it is (and then they'll send it to the wrong table anyhow). However, I keep returning there. The beer selection is ok, about varying 3 ales on tap and the food is ok too (at the moment it's 2 meals 2 drinks for 15). The interior style is relaxed/shabby and the pub is usually packed. But the best thing about the Alwyne is the quiz at 8pm on Tuesdays. Run by quiz man Matt (aka glasses boy), it's 1 each entry with cash prizes- arrive about 7pm for a table. And finally, watch out for Alan Davies after an Arsenal match, also watch your belongings (personal experience of theft there (probably not linked to Alan!)).

Jay Cubed, Angel, Islington

Now called 'The Hobgoblin' it's a Wychwood pub serving a pretty full range of their bottles and Hobgoblin from cask. Ideal for groups of 4 or more, it's a short walk from Angel tube. There's a pool table in the back room and a well stocked juke box of mainly rock. The beer can be a tad dubious, and the hobgoblin is not always on. Finally, beware of the landlord's dog, it has a habit of sampling unattended beers!

The Swan In The Rushes, Loughborough

Fantastic pub in Loughborough with really knowledgeable, friendly staff. The food is lovely, I can recommend the local sausages and the hot baguette is great value. About 8 cask beers on and the ones I tried were in fine condition.
