The White Horse, Welwyn

A great pub - it used to get rather smoky inside but since the smoking ban I've been back twice and it is a great place for an evening of bonhomie. The garden is pleasant too, and I'm looking forward to trying out one of the White Horse BBQs one day. As a previous comment noted, Scrumpy Jack in proper glasses - fantastic, as well as a range of bottled ciders.

North Star, Welwyn

I've only visited this pub once and it struck me as being rather soulless, possibly because of its size. There are a number of similar pubs in this region - huge places which seem to be aimed more at the business lunch market. Although I enjoy dining out, I must say I prefer a more homely, traditional type of pub (a 'local') than a 'restaurant that serves beer'.

The Chequers Inn, Woolmer Green

I've become a regular here over the last few months and I have to say it is a great establishment. The staff are friendly, the food is good and the ambience of the place is welcoming, especially in the winter months with the roaring fires.
I'd like to be able to watch football here but then the place would probably not have such a pleasant atmosphere as it would attract different clientele.
Overall, the Chequers is thoroughly recommended.
