Having to work in the hell that is CW, I have finally found the only remnant of civilisation for miles around. The 'Black sheep' was in excellent condition. I'll be regaining my sanity as often as possible there.

Excellent Deuchars, Friendly local sort of pub. The food is unpretentious and home made - absolutely excellent. Sunday lunch with all trimings was just like Mum used to make! A proper joint, with fresh veg. Gravy (not jus!)

Had lunch on Saturday - was a bit worried as a few months ago the food was totally inedible. Friendly Barmaid convinced me with 'We've got a new chef'. Excellent! Home made pie (not one of those with a crust from the freezer stuck on a bowl of gruel) A PROPER PIE! plus fresh veges. This is even better than it was years ago. Washed down with Deuchars - heaven. I hope the new management dont lose the ambience with 'modernisation' its almost perfect as it is (ok - there's a few damp patches that you could sort with a bit of paint if you have to).

The Great Northern, St Albans
Well its certainly changed, Its had a total character lobotomy! Also prices gone from cheapest in St Albans to highest. Only had one pint and it was OK but too expensive - as was the wine.
