The Crescent, Salford

Love this pub. I know it's had its ups & downs; I'm not a local, but I always try & get there on my Manchester visits - every year or two - and I've never been disappointed. They used to have a brilliant fruit machine which I always made a profit on (and I'm not an expert - I'm sorry to everyone who lost the money that I won back!). But now it's just beer, beer, beer (and maybe a few ciders) - plus a great atmosphere, excellent music etc. Haven't been since 2013, must get back this year!

The Vectis Tavern, Cowes

Seemed an inviting enough place on my last IOW visit in 2008, and returning a couple of weeks ago it was equally pleasant. Simple decor, easy-going staff & customers, good beer (the house ale - from the local 'Island Brewery' iirc - was cheap & extremely more-ish); not an essential diversion, but if you're in Cowes then it's worth calling in.

The Kings Head, Norwich

A very good pub indeed, if you don't mind the wooden seats which a few people seem to dislike! Anyone who supports Reedham's Humpty Dumpty brewery is fine by me; I was sad to find, on my last visit, that they'd recently had - but were temporarily out of - Railway Sleeper (probably my all-time fave beer). If I hadn't had a train to catch, I'd have gladly stayed a lot longer, but the one beer I tried (Humpty Dumpty Porter) was delicious. A real ale drinker's paradise, I won't leave it so late in the day next time I'm passing through Norwich!

The New Entertainer, Gorleston

I've had many enjoyable holidays in East Norfolk; the local beer (Woodforde's, Humpty Dumpty, Yarmouth etc) is a major attraction, and the New Ent. has been high on my 'must visit' list since I discovered it in the 90's. A good traditional boozer with a great choice of real ales, comfy & welcoming. I'm not one for staying in the same pub for hours, especially if it's fine cycling weather, but this place almost makes me wish for torrential rain to keep me inside!
