Foremans Bar, Nottingham

marvellous - in wonderful contrast to the remainder of foreman street (and what a s*****le the remainder of foreman street continues to be)

The Test Match, West Bridgford

ruination completed at the time of the last `refit` - reminds me (didn`t say it looked like) of the interior of a cross channel ferry, with art deco features begrudgingly incorporated in to the `new look`. what a shame, what a sad end for a lovely old building.

The Victoria Hotel, Beeston

`moribund` - in all probability the customers are outside in the garden because a series of signs has ordered them to do so (see previous postings).... `islington dinner party`.... wished i had thought of that

The Ferry Inn, Wilford

the ferry inn is a restaurant with a small bar and limited room for those who do not wish to eat. the ferry inn is not a `pub`. having said that, the beer is reasonably well kept and smokers are (thankfully) well catered for. plenty of tables with attached umbrellas provide ample cover for us lepers to continue to indulge in our disgusting habit.

The Old Colonial, West Bridgford

IPA with added vinegar. Yummy. This place has a `legoland estate` pub feel, probably because it belongs to a legoland housing estate and it is a pub (well, almost... it`s a bar not a `pub` - as in `public house` - you know... house with rooms) Insipid, formulaic.

The Tap 'n' Tumbler, Nottingham

beer that tastes of vinegar, just what you need

The Stratford Haven, West Bridgford

pharaoh, let me guess - you have applied for a job at the stratford

A `real ale` pub with middle class pretensions. I agree with the comments about the signs - `don`t do this` `don`t do that` `ask permisssion for etc`
Another sign now informs the fortunate consumer that smoking is banned throughout the premises, including the garden. Walking through the car park i noticed odedient customers standing on the pavement dutifully smoking their cigarettes at the required distance.
That stopped me in my tracks. I didn`t bother going in that day. The beer is well kept, but so is the beer in lots of other pubs. Spent my money elsewhere. Won`t be going back either
I propose another sign be posted near to entrances - `not welcome`

The Fox and Crown, Newark

Locally, this place is known as `the doom and gloom`. It earned this reputation years ago and after a recent visit i can find no reason to disagree. It is an indifferent place that serves good beer. If a person were prone to bouts of melancholia then this is certainly one place to avoid. I agree with previous comments that the staff are downbeat and somewhat miserable. But it has always been so - hence the nickname.

Lord Nelson, Sneinton

a real public house - this one actually has seperate rooms. a good un - a jewel in the middle of nothingness. i hope that it shall remain as it is.

The Old Nags Head, Edale

much improved, a large stride in the right direction - let us see for how long this continues

The Cheshire Cheese Inn, Hope

much impressed, very, very good beer and in a real pub too (what a bonus, so few `public houses` now remain) - the landlord should be given a knighthood and the power to roam the length and breadth of england closing any outlets that do not meet his exacting standards, a sort of pub `witchfinder general` - yes!, yes!, yes!

Apple Tree, West Bridgford

awful place. the sort of place that advertisng executives dream of. full of drones and self centered people, sniffy poeple. isipid and unappealing. would not be out of place in any of the new style housing estates anywhere in the country. Chicken burger, panda pop and a pint of (extra cold)carling please!
I`d rather go to a mosque.

The Trent Bridge Inn, West Bridgford

This place goes thorugh a `refurb` every few years. Every time it is supposed to be `different`. Absolute rubbish. The place is a dive, an expensive dive, but a dive nontheless. I wonder if `pub` manangement chains think that by calling a refurb they can alter character and reputation. Eh? Perhaps refurbs have tax advantages i don`t know. The fact is this place remains unappealing and continues in the best tradition of `tacky and tasteless`. `World Renowned`? (Hmmm). Moronic doorpersons, ignorant barstaff, poor service, low quality beverage, high prices. Crap. Remains crap and will continue to be crap. Demolish the place and grow potatoes on the vacated land.

The Stratford Haven, West Bridgford

The staff can be a bit sniffy - can be reluctant to serve and regularly develop `selective hearing`. Might be something to with their age (they are very young and probably don`t know any better. perhaps they think it `uncool` to offer unfussy service).

The beer is, generally, very good. Prices are reasonable. Not a bad place to be. Have a look at the rest of the (!) pubs in Bridgford and you will see what i mean.

In one sense though the Stratford Haven is a sad reminder that the `pub` has had it`s hayday. This bar has the potential to be very good, but in all probability it is the best it will ever be. Compared to the remainder of the `pubs` (hah!!) in Bridgford it is indeed a Haven. But, if this is the very best we can expect... well... i think that to be a sad reflection.

Yes, i know, be grateful for what is there and be thankfull.

Look on the bright side - no doorman (sorry duck, wrong footwear), no musak, no video jukebox, kareoke, gold chains, shell suits, `sizzling steaks`, the smell of weed in the toilets.... hmmmmm

Larwood & Voce Tavern, Trent Bridge

I agree, this place is a dive. Doubtless the owners would tell you that `we are only giving the customer what they want`. Righto.

The Old Nags Head, Edale

Went in on a weeday last week, first time for a couple of years. Not impressed. Had to take the first pint back to the bar - it was opaque and had that home brew yeasty taste about it. Landlord didn`t like the criticism his first response was ` no one else has complained about it this evening` i half expected to hear the `whats the matter with it? its real ale` he poured out a sample examined it and told one of the staff to give me a pint from another pump. Overpriced menu, east european bar staff i think (no, i am not a xenophobe) and zero atmosphere - 11 o`clock closing - just in case you may forget the time the staff sweep the floor around your table and the clean the ashtray that you havn`t finished with. Listed as one of THE 100 greatest british pubs - yeah right.
