The Gate, Bricket Wood

Hmm an ok pub prob best described as a blokes pub centred largely around the dart board and a bit clicky !! Never seen any food served as thats in another area and its not a beer lovers mecca really either. Football usually on in the main bar.

The landlady looks/sounds a bit fierce and the least said about her complete goon other half the better !

Having said that with the Fox and Hounds closed down and The Old Fox deserted every night I'm afraid you're now blessed with choice in this area!

Maybe it just wasn't my day but after being driven to the edge of suicide in The Red Lion Yardley Hastings - I popped in here looking for some life but there was even less. Think gods waiting room and you've kind of got this place sussed.

Had a pint of Winter Warmer which was bordering on undrinkable - still ever the optimist we sat down in very depressing surroundings in desperate need of a makeover. Kind of had a characterless northern B&B feel to it. However before my life ebbed away we decided to quit while we were ahead ie alive, and headed for the car.

Clearly the demise of the village pub is well under way as again apart from 4 coffin dodgers loitering by the door there was not a soul in here. Green Man over the road a better bet !

Hmmm went in on a Saturday lunch and the place was completely dead apart from one chap that managed to conduct a conversation for what seemed like years on the subject of an order for wood !!

Not the friendliest of welcome (how difficult is it to say thanks when giving you your change??).

Had a bite to eat - a small aubergine bake dish weighed in at NINE quid !! Quite nice but certainly not value for money

With suicidal music playing in the background, had just the one pint and left (leaving no-one in there), this was 1:30 on a Saturday and headed back to my car feeling well depressed. Surprisingly I won't be back as I like a bit of character or even life in my pubs !

Oh and closed all day Monday !!

That is undoubtedly an inside job posting ! 'Jovial Owner' and 'first rate welcome' ? You are surely not serious. Would that explain why some nights you will be in there on your own ?

As for 'fine selection of beers and wines' - you have TWO real ales Blonde and Doom and they haven't changed in a year with everything else gas filled crud (John Smiths/Carling extra cold etc) and the wine extends to one corner shop standard Merlot (unless you want the aeroplane type mini bottles which of course are known for their quality aren't they. This is definately NOT an ale lovers location.

There is no food available at all and don't hold your breath for it as the planning applications to get this up and running are years from being approved due to local hostility!

Great location for a pub but you can't help thinking in the right hands it could be SO much better !

Should the landlady be allowed to write her own reviews ?

How can 2 pints of Fosters come to 5.75 ???

The Muntjac, Harrold

Pretends to be something it definately isn't - Michelin star prices - Little chef standard chef !!

3 overcooked tiny scallops 7.50 - a tasteless chicken roll thing 15 ! and get this PAPER napkins ! I mean paying 20 a dish why would you expect linen !

Shoehorned into the corner of a very small bland characterless restaurant and nope couldn't recommend this at all !

Moor Mill, Bricket Wood

Has tragically been turned into a Beefeater - so look forward to cardboard tasting mass produced heated up food, soulless interior and screaming brats everywhere !

Oh well it was good while it lasted

Ye Three Fyshes, Turvey

Horrible !! Staff miserable - no characters at all just chain driven crud !

Looked at the food being carried past me and thought Nah !

Think sub standard Beefeater and you're about there - doubt if they have a chef as it looks like everything on the menu is designed to be bought in bulk and heated up on order !

Mojama, Hampstead

Drove past the other night and happened to catch the upsetting sight of a scrawny bloke doing a full on pirouette in the middle of tha bar clearly trying to impress.

Would suggest avoiding unless you are a fully paid up fan of Quentin Crisp !

The Bay View Inn, Widemouth Bay

Truly hideous mark up on very poor wines - sell Blossom Hill (makes Blue Nun taste like Krug !!) for 14 a bottle even though they bought it for about 2.50 !!!

Food OK not special.
