The Talbot, Kingsland

Went last night and actually thought the bar staff were really chatty and friendly so not sure what the others are talking about.

The Scolt Head, Islington

Went last night because my friends wanted to play pool in the back room, which also has a huge screen. The room itself was a bit too bare and cold for me and had a school hall feel but the front room was cosier with candles on the tables. There is also a beer garden at the front which will come in handy in summer. A nice touch was that they give my friend a bottle of wine because the light didnt work in the disabled toilet, even though they had made up for it with putting a couple of candles in instead.

A new local for me although I haven't visited yet but I noticed them giving it a makeover and it looks OK so will visit soon. Used to be The Sussex.

This bar is great! Ive been here many a time and despite being well into my thirties I have no issues with the young bar staff. The service can be a little slow but its a friendly and laid back place so uppity city types used to Corney & Barrow expense accounts and finger snapping service wont like it and thats exactly why we do. An eclectic mix of people, good food and a great outdoor area.

What a lovely little gem! Went on Thursday night and it was so chilled and friendly with good tunes, a nice mix of people and the chucked together furniture gives it a lovely cosy and studenty feel. Cant wait to go back.

Apparently its won some kind of award but having visited for a friends birthday over the weekend I can only think it was an award for being the most overrated and overpriced bar. Drinks were very expensive and topped up by a discretionary service charge of 13.5% even though you ordered at the bar, staff were rude and it just didnt have a good vibe at all. It was the sort of place that attracts people with a lot of money but not a lot of personality who have to rely on credit cards to pull an attractive gold digger. On the upside the drinks were good and the DJ played a nice and funky mix but there are many other dj bars that are actually fun to go to. Give this one a miss.

Bedroom Bar, Shoreditch

Not sure why this dj bar hasn't made it on here yet but maybe they tried to keep it to themselves. There's a bed tucked into one corner, hence the name. Small bar with a good laid back crowd and good music

The Gate, Arkley

Good food in large portions, a nice traditional pub and a good size beer garden to boot.

The Three Hammers, Mill Hill

Looking good since the refit and nice to have an open fire.

O'Neills, North Finchley

Big drinking den for teenagers and undesirables who are not allowed into Autumn House. It's an O'Neill's pub so enough said.

Purple Rain Bar and Restaurant, North Finchley

We visited the bar twice when it opened a couple of months ago. Interior is OK, albeit with a bit of an IKEA feel, but the big plasma screens blurting out music were a real turn off and the advertising between tracks was very loud and intrusive. It appeared to have pulled in all the local Indian teenagers who spent their whole evening sharing a hookah pipe and one glass of coke. Not sure if any bar would make a profit out of that in a hurry. I think Id rather spend my beer money in a place with a little more atmosphere!
