The Old Forge, Otterbourne

I know many contributers don't like food comments on this site BUT if you like a well cooked steak plus trimings and heavenly warm Chocolate Brownie and ice cream with one of the best pints of Draft Stella I've had in a long time, then give Old Forge a whirl. Some of us only visit pubs when eating and you just do have to accommodate us. Sorry if this causes offence.

The Green Man, Winchester

I go to the Green Man often over lunch, as it is local to my office. The food is taisty and the service very good. We go there because it is no smoking, and frankly smokers you'd better get used to it....

The Wykeham Arms, Winchester

Went to the Wykeham Arms last night (valentines Day) having booked a great table in the restaurant area at the front/far side. Met old friends who live locally and had a sublime meal with attentive staff in a homely atmosphere. Walking through the various rooms, everyone seemed to be getting what they wanted, I find it's difficult to combine dining and drinking in the same venue, but the Wykeham Arms has it just right. Whether you pop in for a pint and some crisps or a three course delightful meal, I would recommend this gem, & will certainly return in the near future. Even the two chaps who had been stood up and disappointedly shared the table for four nearby, seemed to be enjoying themselves by the end of the evening!!

The Slug and Lettuce, Winchester

A lovely trendy place to take teenage daughters for a good lunch after shopping. Usual extensive menu to suit your mood. I recommend the Mezze. Can be a bit cold sitting by ill fitting windows in the winter!

The Plough, Sparsholt

Looks as if we were lucky (looking at the comments below) Had a very pleasant meal, grilled Goat's Cheese followed by the best/most succulant and largest plate of Mussels I have had for a long time. Staff were pretty helpful. Had a very enjoyable evening.

Chequers Inn, Lymington

On a sunny Saturday morning, visit the excellent market in Lymington (stop at George's plant stall as he sings "They're cheap, there're cheap Gawd Blimey they're cheap today!")then walk through Pennington Marshes with great views of the IOW. Aim to finish here at Noon and sit in the gardens (front walled or back grass & umbrellas). Good food (recommend the Stilton/Bacon/Walnut salad)and beer, then saunter back.

The Otter, Otterbourne

I recommend this great pub for Sunday Lunch. Extensive menu with specials and choice of 2 roast lunches (7.95). Big portions, well presented. Homemade Chocolate Mousse was delightful. Same attentive staff as previous comments.
