The White Hart, Whitechapel

Popped in again recently on a Saturday night with a few friends - there were about ten people in here, including us and the bar staff. Drinks were ok and at ok prices but I cant help feeling that its on its knees now and something needs to change pronto or ittl soon close its doors.

I love how people seem to pick holes in what has turned out to be a pretty good local pub. Friendly staff, reasonable prices on drinks - surely thats the most important thing? In that case, the Great Eastern is just about perfect.

There were worries from people that the backpackers accomedation would lead to problems, but that has not happened - If anything the pub has improved from its previous version, which lets face it was dingy and was losing money because of lack of customers.

The GE has become my pub of choice if I fancy a relaxed local drink close to home, and see it continuing to do so.

Have made the mistake of hiring crap bands. They turn up, play their own songs super loudly then when they finish all their groupies leave. This makes the pub look emptier than usual. A shame as this had recovered somewhat from the chavfest it trned into.

Went in tonight - rubbish DJ and the place looked really dingy and smelt like piss. Not sure whats going on but the owner was in the pub down the road so thats how great it was.

OK, its been a year since I went here. Tried to get in tonight and told same old shit. They needed photo ID and a picture taken. The only people who carry photo ID are students, so why not just say thats all you want to let in? The laugh is the hired muscle explaining that the three forms of acepted ID on the door are only for under 18 year olds but not being able to explain what ID men of 28 are expected to walk around with. A dive.

In a word - shite. Order food at your own risk. Woe betide you if you ask them to repeat something. I ordered steak on two occasions, asked for well done, came with more blood than Im comfortable seeing at a meal. Dread to think what would have turned up if Id asked for rare. Asked for peppercorn sauce and was given tarragon. Not a problem I thought I'll ask them to change it, but the attitude was I had ordered wrong, even though it was clearly on the reciept.
Typical weatherspoons I suppose but the attitude is the worst Ive come across.

Pretty decent but still a little unsure of themselves. They seem to be closing earlier these days, and their choice of live acts could be a little more thought out. Its mostly student acts who bring their groupies along, then when the band finish everyone leaves. On the plus side the staff are freindly and the beer is quite cheap.

This pub has been going downhill for a while now - first 1 to get in, then 3, then 5. They can't actually tell you what this money is for other than saying 'my boss says' over and over again. They insist on photo ID 'in case you cause trouble'. Can't see how that helps really after the event. They try emotional blackmail like 'its 3 to get in but we've raised it to 5 and the extra 2 is going to cancer research'. All in all what used to be a pretty lively decent place to go on a weekend has turned into a joke. The final straw was being told all the pubs in the area are asking for ID and covercharges - No they are not.
