The George, Hitchin

Thursday afternoon. My first visit since the 1970s. Much changed. Very friendly staff. Real fire was welcome on a cold afternoon.

Sir Garnet Wolseley, Norwich

19:00 Ordered a pint of Lacons Encore. It was as cloudy as soup. I asked to exchange it and then the argument started. "It's fresh on", "It's supposed to look like that", "It's from a new local brewery you may not be familiar with it". I told him I had been round the brewery and met the brewer but that cut no ice. It was getting quite heated before he gave in and gave me a different pint. I would have demanded a refund and walked out but my wife had got her drink. Luckily Norwich is blessed with a choice of good pubs so I won't need to darken these doors again.

The Ship Inn, Weybourne

First visit since change of Landlord. Much improved. The cafe style tablecloths had gone and the pub was much more its old self. Good beer selection too. One of my favourites, Humpty Dumpty Nord Atlantic was on.

The Post Office Vaults, Birmingham

First visit on the 25th of June. Very impressed. Excellent beer choice. The landlord and staff made us very welcome. The foreign beer list is excellent.

The Skinners Arms, Kings Cross

Some debate about whether or not this is a Greene King pub. It still has the brewery ceramic plaque outside, which is normally a clue. Beers today 25/10/12 were Abbot, GK IPA, GK IPA Gold, Landlord, Black Sheep Bitter and Thwaites Wainwright. If it's a genuine free house why is the beer choice so boring?

The Red Lion, Hockwold

Recently renovated and re-opened after a period of closure. Smart interior, friendly staff and good beer.
