Yew Tree Inn, Mosley Common Worsley

This could be a good pub. A bit rough in the vault, nicer and more comfortable in the other side. Food - average. Friendliness - sketchy. Darts - busy. Expect blokes one side, local families the other. Kids play area is not bad. Beer - pricey. Great if you're a local dart-playing heavy drinker with loads of cash!

The Bulls Head, Astley

A comfortable and well kept pub, good range of things to drink, good outdoor beer gardens with heated smokers corners. Food, however is shocking. Really bad frozen microwave type (is cheap though). Busy with the young crowd on weekends and in summer. Nice place to meet up or to have a pint or coffee with the newspaper through the week. On the Leigh to Manchester bus route.

The Boathouse Inn, Astley

A friendly canal-side pub, Debs and Michelle are great landladies, pool table, darts, jukebox, good value food. Always a choice of real ales (currently Jennings Cumberland, Adnams Broadside, plus a guest beer). Very relaxed and informal, busy outside in summer.

Ross's Arms, Astley

A really good pub for locals and visitors alike. The food is great since the new team took over, admittedly a little bit more expensive than most local pubs but still good value given the quality of the chef-prepared fodder. The chips (you literally get 4 or 6 BIG chips) are fantastic. Rack of lamb is lean and succulent. Specials board. Try the fishcake. No pool table, still has darts though. Only bad points for me are the choice of newspapers (Express, Mail) and the younger female barstaff do not seem interested. Great food-service though. Book in advance on busy days to be guaranteed a table.
