The Merry Harriers, Hambledon

It's got better. Hadn't been since I lived in London, now moved into Chiddingfold down the road. Nearly a year ago I think I made my last trip. Ale choice has changed slightly, TEA is gone, replaced with the weaker HBB (3.7%), Alton's Pride from FFF remains and is excellent (3.8%), Crop Circle is still in (4.2%) and although i'm not a fan they seemed to sell a fair bit of it. Otherwise 2 guest beers on tap and a few bottled beers, including the 7.4% Kwak from Belgium...not for me.

Anyway, went to the beer festival a few weeks back and had a whale of a time, still a bit pokey inside, particularly when they have live music on, but otherwise top notch. A real pub, huzzah!

Bull Inn, Bentley

Can't believe that nobody has reviewed this beauty yet. Excellent front smoking terrace, shame about the road noise, but hey-ho. We arrived 5 minutes after they stopped food service, but the landlord checked with the chef, who came out to see us and say that it wouldn't be a problem. What a refreshing change!

Food was good, beer selecion a little average, but hey!

The Stag on the River, Eashing

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I thoroughly enjoyed my evening at The Stag! Our waiter, Ed I think, was great. I've only been living in Surrey for about 2 months now having moved down from London but I used to visit a lot. I had somehow managed to miss this little gem! HOP was nice (when is it not) and there was a fairly decent wine selection. I had the fish cakes, which were brilliant, and the whole group enjoyed it.

Shame about the dog friendly thing, I for one have no issue having a dog near me when i'm eating, as long as it's well behaved!

The Red Lion, Godalming

ARGH!
What the hell is that dog doing? If I wanted to have a pint with a giant dog I would head to The House of Blues at the other end of town on a Fri/Sat night and chat to some of the "women" there.

The beer was shocking, the landlord worse, didn't sample the food, but to be honest, unless it was stewed dog I probably wouldn't have been that intersted. Best avoided.

The Little Park Hatch, Cranleigh

Great little pub in my honest opinion, brilliant fire, very cheeky smoking area (go & you'll see what I mean!) and a brilliant atmoshere for the rugby today (England vs. France, 2009 6 Nations)

The Crown, Chiddingfold

Got to say that...I like it!

I spend a lot of time in the Godalming and surrounding areas (familly thing) and had never ventured to The Crown, having heard that it was a gastro-pub. Went into, I think, the Half Crown, and was pleasantly surprised. Nice little chat with the Landlord (Dan I think) and the Manager (Marcus) who were both very pleasant.

Butcombe was a little difficult to finish, but overall I thought it was great. Definately be back to try the food.

The Woolpack, Elstead

BIGACHO's comment(s) are hilarious. They couldn't be any more affiliated with the pub if they called themselves "The Woolpack, Elstead, Surrey"

Anyway, I found it to be quite average, better than The Mill, but that's not saying much really!

The Star, Godalming

Can't believe that anyone could do anything other than give this place 10/10!, and i'm not even a cider fan. Such a welcoming bunch of locals, tiny bar & good bar staff.

Add in an ecclectic mix of furniture and the old guest ale pump signs on the ceiling (there are a LOT of them!) and you have, in my eyes, the perfect pub.

Makes my bi-monthly trip down to Godalming from London all the better!

The City Arms, Manchester

Brilliant pub, I can't really add much more than those below have put, other than to say that the barmaid who served me was exceptional, despite being busy she still had time to laugh at my jokes. Which frankly, are terrible.

Lovely pint of Sober as a Judge, one of the best I've tried actually. Good to see (reasonablly) local ales in local pubs, didn't sample the food, but the atmosphere was good, and the fire was roaring. What more can you ask in early November!

The Star, Witley

Eugh.

I can honestly say I've never met a man more angry than the current landlord of this souless hole. Not only is he rude to the point of being outright aggressive, he clearly has no idea how to run a pub. The staff seem petrified of him, and as a result are excruciatingly nervous, which lead to them being, well, crap.

Beer was average, if that. Food was in a similar vein.

It's such a shame, a great location, brilliant garden, parking, ample room and, from what I could make out, the only pub in the village. Can only pray that the landlord leaves, as this could be an absoloutely corking boozer. Thought I'd stumbled onto a gem just outside my favourite country retreat of Godalming(I visit the area from London every other weekend), turns out I was wrong.

The Rising Sun, Lynmouth

I can only say that I wish this pub (or even something half as good) was near me. Brilliant staff, was drinking the carbonated stuff (don't really know why) so can't comment on the quality of the ale. Bar food was well priced and tasty, and what a location. One of Devon's (if not Englands) prettiest towns.

11/10

The Inn On The Lake, Godalming

Not cheap? Amstell @2.85 a pint. I'm happy with that. The standard of the ales has recently gone up too. Timothy Taylor & Fullers LP if I remember correctly.

True it does lack atmosphere, and there are no locals to speak of (except for the local college kids who seem to pour in around half 4 everyday), but it's ok. Nice old building on a great site with a big garden (although it has minimal tables).

The Rose and Crown, Godalming

Popped in last Sunday night, quite quiet. Doombar was excellent, barman seemed quite friendly. All in all a nice little pub. Will be visiting again soon.
