Pub du Vin, Brighton

Love this pub.
The decor is different, nothing I could fault apart from the painted on peeling paint, a little tacky but its brand new so ill give it a chance to age properly - then they wont have to fake it.

I was delighted to find a range from Darkstar, and thoroughly enjoyed my pint.
The food was of very good quality and for the price, definitely a bargain - can i reccomend the bar snacks - from home made scotch eggs to rock oysters. You really cant complain.

The service was friendly and courteous - if a little lacking in enthusiasm, but maybe the young bartender was shy.

I am a fan of this pub, and will look forward to many more visits. Just beware of older more "propper" clientelle, who will be offended if you have a loud conversation involving hearty laughing a more colourful vocabulary, I think maybe people are confusing this with hotel du vin? Thats next door.

The Victory Inn, Brighton

Had a lovely pint of ale here. Pub was spotless. Food decent, not the gourmet affair most pubs tend to be leaning to - honest hearty pub food - just as it says on the tin. Will be back.

The Mash Tun, Brighton

I love this pub on a weekend night, lovely atmosphere and perfectly suited to students. However I went there for a sunday roast today and has to be said this is the worst roast I have ever encountered (even worse than mine, and my cooking skills are pretty horific) Meat a little cold and didnt seem to have been roasted at all, soggy - boiling veg and watery gravy. Lovely to drink in just avoid the food!

The Cricketers, Brighton

Ok decor. Ok beer. Food not exactly desriable but does the job. Rude staff (Im not sure whether the tall, loud chap is the manager but the service industry is evidently not for him)

Mediocre pub, would be improved if they sorted out their staff.

The Black Lion, Brighton

The food here is absolutely incredible. I believe it was taken under new management as of march 08 and the new chef "Gil" was employed - The Pork Belly here is unquestionably the best I have ever had, and a genuinely friendly mix of staff is refreshing. The music here is mixed with an acoustic night on wednesdays or thursdays and a mix of djs on friday and saturday. Some better than others, but considering the clientelle on weekend nights is considerably younger and significantly more intoxicated I think the music caters adequately for the crowd.
My experience of the beer here is good, I enjoy a pint here two maybe three times a week and have never had a bad experience. They change their range of ales about once every two months.
All in all I enjoy food and a pint in this pub relatively frequently and would reccommend it.
Those of you who have experienced the rather louder crowd and not so amazing music on friday or saturday nights. Give it another chance.
And try the pork belly.
