Saracens Head, Worcester

super little Pub. as stated front bar is the tap room with a rear lounge and superb out door TV facility. well kept range of real asked, normally between5 and 7 on per day. Loved The St. . Edmunds that was on recently but also normally have a selection of small breweries too. They also do a smashing range of filled rolls, the beef and horseradish cooked freshly on the day was amazing!
one of the better pubs in Worcester. competitive prices, well you have to with Wetherspoons right on your doorstep. will be back soon.

The Carters Rest, Wroughton

cracking good pub, Kev and Caroline are superb but are moving on in July 2012 so hope this place doesn't change and the new comers can maintain the quality about 8 quality ales on tap at all times, well looked after and a good range too. Doombar is on all the time and the others change regularly.
Well worth a visit!

The Hunters Inn, Newton Tracey

Nice pub which you will have to go and find as it isnt one you would really be just passing.
3 well kept ales on tap, whole family made very welcome. A large menu and afully booked restaraunt which you will need to book if you want oeat at night but it is worth it as the food was excellent.
Would recommend this place whole heartedly.

The Five Bells, Wootton Bassett

Been back to this pub since last review and it just gets better. Most relaxing place you could wish to visit. 6 ales on, tried 3 (can't remember all the names) and they were all perfect. Wife nd children had some fantastic meals and never rushed and all felt welcome and comfortable. newspapers around to read after the meal whilst the children played chess. Superb! the place to go if you are in the area!

Red Lion, Wootton Bassett

Cheapest pint in town and well kept too.
2 bars with Sport on TV in one of them. Locals were fairly friendly although a few odd looks to use 'outsiders'.

The Old Nick, Wootton Bassett

Not what you might call a family pub. Very rough and ready, TV screens everywehere you look. If you like it loud this is the place for you

1 Jul 2011 13:12

The Borough Arms, Wootton Bassett

Yeah nowcalled th Royal and run bu the same guy who runs the Curriers Arms down the road. Well kept pint of Arkells b always on and occasionally 2B as well but that is the extent of the choice which is a shame

The Colville Arms, Swadlincote

What a great pub, the most beautiful location ; You really could not ask for a better location.
The ales were of the highest standard, Pedigree and Bass on when i visited and both perfect. Not a food pub although they do small snacks and some wonderful filled rolls.
Great place to visit and then pop round the corner for the cricket at Lullington park.
This is pub does not open in the day during the week but is always busy when it is open!

The Five Bells, Wootton Bassett

nice place - clean and tidy - 3 cask conditioned ales on whe n we visited and all 3 were top quality.
No food on which was disappointing for 2.30pm
Nice sun trap of a beer garden with plenty of seating and were okay about the children being there
All round a good place and certainly we will go back to when we return to the area

The Town Local, Wootton Bassett

I believe this pub has now closed

The Cap 'n' Gown, Worcester

Beer is well kept, tidy if a little characterless but a good place to watch the sport over a good pint

Platforms, Basingstoke

wow what a wild place!
Visited here about a month ago whilst waiting for a train. The characters in the place were unusual to say the least, obviosuly a fairly heavy drinkers pub , not somewhere I would want to visit regularly but harmless never the less. No real ales on tap but in bottles at an average price

1 Sep 2010 17:25

Lloyds No 1, Basingstoke

Beer was of a good standard, food was good too
I visited with the children and we were made to feel welcome although it was difficult to find a clean table.
Aftr a 5 minute wait one was cleared for us and the food was brought shortly after
A fairy typical Wetherspoon / Lloyds No1 Bar experience

The Hundred House Inn, Hundred House

A tiny pub just on the outskirts of Builth Wells, not Llandrindod
Food isn't too bad and the ales they have on are reasonable too
Great warm fire on a cold night
The pub needs a real good spruce up and some money spending on it as it is looking tired but generally not a bad place to visit. There isn't much in Builth Wells itself to get excited about if it is ale or food you are looking for

The Cricketers, Littlewick Green

Hoping it was justr a bad day but we couldnt be more dissappointed with our visit to the wonderful pub
The setting is perfect, off the main road, next to a very pretty cricket ground. It is a 3 room pub with tables outside which was perfect as it was a gorgeous end of summer day for our visit.
Both the children and 2 springer spaniels were made welcome, the dogs even got treats and a water bowl. All set up nicely I thought as we sat below the magnificent walnut tree at the front door.
4 ales were displayed although they did say the Firsty Ferret and one other (I forget which now) were both not ready yet
I had a pint of Badger Gold which was Okay follwed by a Sussex best which was dreadful, cludy and full of sediment and had to be sent back. We ordered food but that was sent back to as it was undercokked. My daughter had pork which was as pink and jelly like as you could not wish for.
It is unfortunate that I write this now with the whole family having upset stomachs. The pub was wonderful to see and the setting just perfect but that it where it ended for us and I am sorry we will not be returning to eat altho we may try a beer if passing?

The Sandrock, Boundstone

An update to my last post on here
Following our fab time last visit and hearing the pub has won awards for the chef we wanted to go back
Arrived 2pm on Saturday only to be told, sorry not serving now we want to watch the World Cup at 2.30. The pub was totally empty, we were the only ones in. Followed by children are not allowed in the oub either they will have to sit outside
YOu can imagine my disappointment at that! Had a pint of Breakspears Gold which was spot on as always. Why did they havw to let themselves down like that tho? They didnt even watch the football with us, they went upstairs to watch it leaving the pub empty.....
Felt it was worth updating as customer service should be all day every day and not forgotten because of the World Cup :(

6 Jul 2010 08:45

The Spotted Cow, Lower Bourne

Sampled this for the first time Saturday, mid afternoon.
Very quiet and had to wait 5 minutes to be served as the bar man was watching the world cup on Tv
FFF Moondance was still on along with London Pride and TEA. Mondance was good and didnt try the other two.
A really nice setting but not the most welcoming of hosts.
We looked at the menu but they were not prepared to serve until 6pm and it was only 5.30 when we finished so can't comment on the food quality. Prices were very high for a pub so I would have expected something good if we had eaten

The Pot Kiln, Frilsham

What a great experience! As one other writer says, a place others should measure themselves by.
Such friendly staff, very welcoming. The Cask conditioned ales from the West Berkshire brewery 500 yards up the road were excellent, clear fresh and just what was needed. Not the easiest place to find but Tom Tom will get you there. Superb area of the world, well worth a visit just for a walk. Then return to the Pot Kiln with a raging appetite to try some on Mike Robinson's excellent fare. All perfect cooked and reasonably priced (The puds were a little expensive but decent portions and my wife loved hers!)
The menu is for ever changing but you will be assured of a great meal whenever you go!
Highly Recommended

The Windsor Castle Inn, Lye

Amazing place. This is our second visit and each time we are amazed by the quality of the craft brewed ales and the food. Last time we did a brewery tour first then had ate this time it was just beer and Sunday lunch. The beer is amazing and all top quality as you would expect. I have really taken to the Worcester Sorcerer (my fav of the 9 by a long chalk!) which is a traditional English Ale and this months special which was Brickmakers ale. Very quaffable if a little strong at 5.2% for a session ale. The other ales are still on as they are the regular brews of Sadlers ales and are listed by others below.
The food was top notch, we had the Sunday roasts this time and they do child portions too.
If only this was my local!
We first noticed this place after the Oz & James' Drink for Britain show and decided we just had to drive up to try it and the 250 mile round trip is certainly worth it in my opinion. Clean, tidy and great staff to welcome you too. A credit to you Chris Sadler!

Ebrington Arms, Braunton

EXCELLENT! Look out for the signs as it is slightly hidden away but well worth looking for. 3 great cask ales (Tribute, Exmoor and Betty Scogs when we went) all well kept and tasty. Food was real value, large portions and well cooked.
The have a family room where the 4 children played skittles, pool and cards and we were all made to feel very welcome.
Will defiantly visit here again when next in the area!

7 Jun 2010 10:05

The Foxhunters Inn, West Down

This place has so much potential but is grossly over priced. The bar and waiting staff were so miserable that we nearly walked out two minutes after walking in. We now wish we had. There are some reasonably priced places near by with much better value and customer service. This place in on the side of a fast main road. The room are very tidy and clean but again massively over priced. 100 a night per room. Could hear the traffic flying by all night so didnt sleep well and very hot rooms too.
The food was poor, tough Argentinian steak the beer was so cloudy I sent back both pints she tried to pour and didnt go back for anything else. We ate at an excellent restaurant down the road in Knowle called Ebrington Arms which was fantastic!
Stay away from this place, most peole do. It was shut by 10pm on Saturday night and we had hell from the landlord as we came home at 10. They were just sooooo miserable!

7 Jun 2010 10:02

Carpenters Arms, Camberley

A great find for a town pub. Three real ales but well kept, and great food. Huge portions, extra veg rather than meat but very very tasty. Children welcome, sport on the telly. What more could we ask for?
Ok, thought of something that could be improved - don't put gravy into the Yorkshire pud.

23 May 2010 21:31

Postal Order, Worcester

One of the better JD Weatherspoons. Had a decent meal and the range of ales was good and well kept too. They were not happy with the children being in unless we ate but as we were eating it didnt matter.
Big building very close to Foregate station, the ideal place to go before catching your train! :)

23 May 2010 11:09

Rodboro Buildings, Guildford

cracking good building, worth a look around. Food was very average, and staff were nothing special, those that spoke English
The range of beers was good but not the best kept and this is far from the best Weatherspoons I have tried.

23 May 2010 11:06

The Castle Grove, Chobham

What a great find! Very welcoming little pub. We had been looking on here for pubs in this area and first tried the red lion about a mile away and what a mistake that was. Being such a wonderful day we took a little detour to the Grove an I am so glad we did. 3 well kept cask conditioned ales (Fullers London Pride, Courage Best and Ringwood Fortyniner), all in perfect condition.
The children were welcomed and a separate children's menu for food. All home made from fresh produce as was the main adult menu. The steak was well cooked and all eaten in a wonderful garden setting (with play area for the children. in sight but of of hearing range ) The only downside was the price of the starters at 5.25. Well worth a visit!

23 May 2010 08:40

The Red Lion, Chobham

We popped in yesterday following the other reviews on this site. We were massively disappointed. The real ale was cloudy, young, dreadful and left unfinished. Bar maid miserable and unkempt and children's play area smelt of urine. Didn't dare try the food so went to the nearby The Grove to eat and that was excellent. (Separate review). We will not be returning to the Red Lion.

23 May 2010 08:31

The Four Horseshoes, Chobham

Not made to feel welcome, although local to us not one I will be frequenting

22 May 2010 11:18

The Salisbury, Leicester Square

Excellent cask conditioned ales and good food too but we went mainly for the heitage of the place and were not disappointed. There was a choioce of 5 ales, Tribute, Bombardier, Goose welll all excellent.

very friendly staff told us all about the history and a quick tour round

children were welcome and were made welcome which was nice.

4 May 2010 15:12

The Sandrock, Boundstone

SUPERB! Cask conditioned ales were top notch, 5 on and I tried them all and not dissappointed in any of them, Swift one was my favourite
Whole family had food and that was top notch too.
No children under 15 in the main area of the bar so we had to eat in a side room but as it was lunchtime and we were the only people in that was Okay. We could sit in my restraunt area which is at the rear of the pub too.
Would highly reccomned this pub. Been on two ocassions and both were equally as good. Worth the 30 mile return trip!

4 May 2010 15:02

The Barbourne Inn, Worcester

cracking little pub. Have to agree with absintheur, unpretentious straight out of the 70s
Good pint of Banks' superb mild!

24 Apr 2010 18:59

The Foresters Arms, Bagshot

nice pub, clean and tidy and comfortable. The food is nothing special at all (had a Sunday lunch ) , reasobale selection of food but certainly edible.
The cask conditioned ales are excellent, well kept and a joy to the palate
I would agree about the landlord. He has real trouble smiling and does not make you feel at all welcome. The whole family were allowed in which was nice and after much hard work did eventually get a discussion out of the landlord, admittedly contained two 2 syllables . He is totally harmless and I am sure will mellow if you get in often enough (we only make it once a month)
If you are looking for great ales then this is certainly the place to come to and well worth a visit.

24 Apr 2010 18:22

The Rose and Thistle, Frimley Green

A most friendly and appealing pub (more than you can say for The Price of Wales close by)
3 cask conditioned ales on pretty much all the time and pretty well kept too (Cask Marque pub), the food is excellent and the whole family are very welcome, even the dogs
Well worth another visit especially for Sunday lunch, a very full plate and excellent Sunday roast washed down with fine ales
Highly recommended

24 Apr 2010 18:02

The Prince of Wales, Farnborough

Visited this pub with the family.
Excellent range of cask conditioned ales which just had to be indulged.
Ordered for myself and wife and 3 cokes for the children
Placed a food order, had the money taken and then told sorry no children allowed in the pub you will have to sit outside
Very annoyed that they waited until they had taken the order and money before telling us
Disappointed in the cleanliness of the pub, bar and most tables were sticky, fire was a pleasant touch but they need a cleaner who will dust with a fire and they certainly haven't go that.
Might go back if I am alone but a most unfriendly pub not a family pub
Food was Okay, nothing special but good enough and as I say the ales were well kept and worth going in for if all you want is a good beer.

24 Apr 2010 17:58

Old Wheatsheaf, Frimley Green

Very good range of 6 cask ales all pretty well kept (Greene King)
Food was excellent if a little bit expensive but a very friendly welcome and the whole family welcomed too (Unlike the Prince Of Wales down the road in Farnborough!!)
All round good place to visit and highly reccomended

2 Jun 2009 18:17

The Prince of Wales, Farnborough

Scruffy little back street pub with an excellent range of Cask Ales and all pretty well kept too.
Day was runied for us when we ordered food to go with the beer, they accepted the order and served the beer, took the money and only then said 'Oh and the children are not allowed in the bar so you will all have to eat outside'. It just happened to be raining and said that they would not give us a refund as they had started to prepare our meals. Sorry, it may be good beer but you don't treat customers like that
Won't be going in here again and it will be more local in a months time when I move to the area too. Shame, will just have to travel a little further to the Rose & Thistle in Frimley where the WHOLE family are made VERY welcome

2 Jun 2009 18:14

Seven Stars Inn, Aberedw

The 2 Cask Ales on were of a reasonable standard, average food but very expensive. In a nice setting and worth a visit if passing. Better than the rubbish in Builth town that is for certain!

2 Jun 2009 18:08

The Rose and Thistle, Frimley Green

Excellent pub! Went in for a Sunday lunch and were very impressed by the high quality Beef and Pork meals we had with a good selection of fresh Veg. The 4 Cask Ales on that were all excellent and crystal clear. I would recommend this place to anyone, whether it be for a Real Ale, or Meal and the Wife said the Nitro Keg lagers were good to
