The Freemasons Arms, Hampstead

The place looks nice but after waiting at the bar to be served for 10 minutes we gave up and left.

We went in on a Saturday afternoon - there were three groups waiting at the bar to be served and four members of staff milling around behind the bar, apparently unable to serve drinks with any urgency at all!

Avoid.

Rosslyn Arms, Hampstead

Very average pub with 'quirky' decor. Agree with what others have said about the staff - they weren't the friendliest bunch!

Whilst the selection of beers was rather poor I did enjoy a nice pint of Courage Best poured with a sprinkler!

Also - what sort of a pub doesn't have crisps?!?! 'The only snacks we have are olives' - NO!

The Garden Gate, Hampstead Heath

Huge pub with a really nice garden. Good selection of ales on (6 or 7 pumps if I recall correctly) - the Harvey's was particularly good. Didn't eat but the food looked really nice too.

The Roebuck, Hampstead

Very average pub - 3 ales on which all tasted fine but not spectacular. The food was rather 'hit and miss' with four of us getting meals which varied in quality (fish and chips were very poor).

it's a shame as the pub had a nice atmosphere and the staff seemed friendly, just need to sort out the kitchen!

The Barrels, Hereford

Really busy pub close to the town centre. excellent selection of wye valley beers all in top condition.

highly recommended!

The Bridge End Inn, Crickhowell

This was the nicest pub that we found on our recent visit to Crickhowell. The staff and locals were very friendly and the good selection of beer was well kept (if a little cold).

The real selling point for this place is the garden which has one of the nicest views i've had the pleasure to find in a pub - pefect for early evening sun.

The Britannia Inn, Crickhowell

Huge place which was very quiet when we went for a drink on a friday. We got the impression that it would get busy later and from the advertisments on the walls (and the comments on here) that would appear to be the case.

Only one real ale on tap which was a theakston's, not the best pint i've ever had but not the worst either.

The Bear, Crickhowell

We didn't find this place particularly welcoming, The staff were rather curt and although the beer was very well kept we only stayed for one pint.

It's a shame as this place looked really inviting and we were intending on staying for food - never mind!

Zero Degrees, Bristol

Went here last weekend. The barman who served us was very knowledgable and explained the beer selection well, offering us a taster, we didn't eat but the food smelled lovely, However...

The IPA was too cold and too fizzy and like many others have written on here, the place feels cold, metallic and lacks soul.

It's a shame as I love the concept, unfortunately it feels like a chain - which i understand it is!

The Red Lion, Knotty Green

further to my previous review, went in here last weekend...they seem to have removed the atmosphere and friendliness over christmas.....

we had to wait for the landlady to finish playing on the fruit machine before getting served. not impressed!

The Old Queens Head, Penn

Went here for a christmas meal. the food was fantastic and the service was excellent too (was a bit concerned considering what others had written in their reviews).

Beer was well kept too and those in the group who had wine from the extensive list were very impressed too.

My only criticism is that the food was a little expensive, but that is quite standard for the area in general.

The Plough, Lower Cadsden

Lovely friendly pub, excellent for walkers and had the nicest roast I have EVER eaten in a pub over christmas.

This is a super place and is highly recommended!

Spade Oak, Bourne End

I have been to this pub a few times before for a drink and the food looked good so we decided to take friends along last sunday for lunch, we will not be going back.......

Despite not being particularly busy the service was AWFUL! It began well, our starters came within 10 minutes of ordering but it then took nearly 90 minutes for our main courses to arrive (we all had sunday roasts).

There were loads of members of staff milling around but they all lacked any hint of urgency (one of the bar staff was more interested in clearing the dishwasher and arranging glasses than actually serving customers!)

It was most frustrating as when our food did arrive it was very nice, unfortunately it did not make up for the inexcusable wait!

The Lord Nelson, Brighton

great place....went on saturday night and very much enjoyed myself. friendly staff and locals, excellent beer and banter.

didn't try the food but the pizzas that other people had certainly looked nice.

will definately go back!

The Red Lion, Bradenham

very nice (if a little overpriced) food and excellent service. the bar staff were friendly and made us feel very welcome on our lunchtime visit.

The Farmer's Bar, Aylesbury

really nice place considering the proximity to the centre of aylesbury. well kept beers and friendly staff made this an excellent place for avoiding the riff raff on a friday night.

i agree with the 'hotel bar' comments....it did seem very bright and sanitised in here, especially the bar area, but this is a small price to pay for such a nice place.

(didn't eat so can't comment on the food).

The Crooked Billet, Little Marlow

friendly country pub.....only been in there once and didn't eat so I can't rate the food but the beer was well kept and the landlord was friendly.

the pub was surprisingly empty!

The Charles Dickens, Beaconsfield

average pub. not the worst in beaconsfield but definately not the best either.

22 Apr 2009 13:51

The Red Lion, Knotty Green

very friendly pub and much larger than it looks from the outside. well kept if limited beer and an excellent array of events were advertised when we went there last weekend.

The Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield

Really friendly countyr pub with an excellent selection of well kept local and not so local beers.

went there at the weekend for pints and food, there was a lovely atmosphere and although expensive the food was hearty and very quick to arrive. Highly recommended.

The pub was very busy when I visited so if you're planning on going with more than 2 people it may be worth booking a table in advance. The age of the place may be a little dubious but it doesn't really matter if it's 900 years old or not.

The Nags Head, High Wycombe

good beer and friendly staff, there wasn't a lot of seating but no one seemed to mind. pool tables out the back and the clientelle seemed relaxed.

It is close enough to town to go on a night out but far enough away to keep the riff raff away...highly recommended to anyone who likes a proper pub playing good music.

The Greyhound Bar, Beaconsfield

I agree with the confusing comment. The look of this place often belies the clientelle and it can feel uncomfortable on occasions. I have been in here a few times and you never know what to expect.

Saying that the staff were really friendly and genuinely seemed to take pride in good service.....but as I say confusing place!

The Old White Swan, Beaconsfield

Really nice friendly pub.....Can get very busy on thursday, friday and saturday, but recommended nonetheless.

One of the better places to go in the old town!

7 Apr 2009 17:53

Queen and Albert, High Wycombe

Really nice friendly pub, not the greatest selection of beers but what is available is well kept and served with a smile.
Lovely garden for enjoying the summer sun and a petanque terrain if your feeling cosmopolitan and active!

Really good food too....This is definately the best pub on the green hands down!

7 Apr 2009 13:44

The Glory Mill, Wooburn Green

This is no longer a pub and has re-opened as a curryhouse called indian village.

7 Apr 2009 13:36

The Bounty, Bourne End

An excellent summer pub. quite ramshackle but nice rebellion beers, bar billiards and friendly staff make this pub well worth a visit.
The decor is 'eclectic' (imagine the goonies running a pub) but it suits the place perfectly....we especially liked the 'Saxon' artifacts!

7 Apr 2009 13:31

Nags Head, Reading

Went here for a pint and a pie last saturday (after getting lost and receiving perfect directions form a helpful stranger, thanks). Really friendly place with excellent selection of well kept beers.
Highly recommended!!!
