Ye Olde Smugglers Inn, Alfriston

I chose this pub at random when visiting Alfriston with some friends, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. I had the chicken and mushroom pie, which was really nice with large chunks of chicken. The sausage and mash and Thai curry were also good meals. The service was pleasant and friendly.

As I was driving, I was sadly unable to try the ales but I was told they were of high quality.

Golden Lion, Romford

Visted the Golden Lion recently for lunch. The pie and chips was really nice. Had a pint of Spitfire and a pint of Black Sheep, both were of excellent quality. Nowadays the real ales in here are always worth sampling. There are cheaper pubs in Romford but a visit to the Lion is always preferable.

The Windmill, Upminster

There certainly is a windmill in sight ! Upminster windmill is up the hill on your left a few minutes' walk away, as you approach the centre of Upminster.
The ale in the Windmill is good quality, not cheap. Atmosphere is far nicer than when this pub was the Bridge House. The food my friends and I have had in here has been very good, especially the curry of the day and varieties of sausage and mash.
