The Bottle and Glass, Binfield Heath

Paul and Trish are back.

Fantastic little pub once again serving the Excellent quality and Value pub food. They have some excellent offers on at present too.

We went on Friday and had Fish and Chips for 2 and a bottle of wine for 20. The fish was excellent, it's great to see the batter being made with the Brakspear beer when your there, truly fresh.

Beer is always of a good quality, nice atmosphere in the bar area, can be a bit quiet in the "Restaurant" area but the more people that go the better that will be.

The Pack Saddle, Chazey Heath

Under New Management.

Haven't been yet but if Trish and Paul's (previously of the Bottle and Glass, Binfield Heath and The New Inn, Kidmore End) normal forumla is anything to go by it will be great. Especially as I will be able to enjoy Paul's food and not ruin it by having to drink Brakspears of which I am not a fan.

I know it's been redecorrated and cleaned up so can't wait to try it, I'll post back when I have.

The New Inn, Kidmore

Hurray, a proper pub serving proper Pub food. Currently being run by Trish and Paul that had the Bottle and Glass in Binfield Heath until about 18 months ago, with their successful tried and tested forumla this place is great.

Food is excellent and sensibly priced, Beer superb and the place is spotless clean.

Exactly what a pub should be. Looking forward to my next visit.

Bird in Hand, Reading

We were confused by this pubs title "Gastro Pub and Restaurant", I thought a Gastro pub was a pub serving good quality food, so was a bit supprised to find nowhere in the bar area really to sit although the "Restaurant" out the back was large. We didn't eat so can't comment on the quality but prices looked a bit more than we would be willing to pay for pub grub.

Having been closed for a while, and seemingly being refurbed for weeks we expected something good and were a bit disappointed. Garden although having been cleared still needs a lot of work and tidying up, the smelly skip not helping.

Beer on tap was Loddon which is brewed about 2 miles away and was served well, and tasted good although over 5 for a beer and a lemonade is a bit pricey.

I have one question, why can noone in the Reading / South Oxfordshire area open a decent pub serving good pub food at reasonable prices. Why does everywhere have to be Gastro! This area is crying out for something normal.

The Ship Inn, Noss Mayo

Great food, Great beer in a Great location, this pub has it all. No denying the restaurant menu is expensive, we ate from the Bar menu and shared a starter and that was plenty of food for us and we both have big apetites. The Steak and Kidney pie was the best for a long time, shame we don't live next door!

The Dolphin, Newton Ferrers

Disappointing...Nice Location, good beer. Food was the issue, first time I have ever felt ripped off after eating in a pub. A dish described as a prawn platter (7)turned out to be a Prawn Cocktail, made with frozen prawns which according to the Landlady is how prawns come...when you can see the sea from the pub!!! Main course, a chicken dish at 11 when served turned out to be a leg, at this price I expect a Breast. In our opinion you are much better off at the far superior Ship over on the other side of the Harbour, the beer and views are just as good if not better and the service and food are miles ahead.

The Cock and Pheasant, Bollington

One Word. Fantastic. Excellent Value for money. Shared Started, 2 main courses 3 and a half pints of bitter all for 30. Great atmosphere and friendly staff / Landlady / Landlord. Food great especially the Hot Pot Pie.

Crown Inn, Playhatch

This pub is not really a pub and not somewhere I would recommend going for a drink.

In my opinion they did there upmost to get rid of the drinking trade. The beer was very poor, tried both the Brakspear Special and the Bitter, and was also very expensive. I am not a huge fan of Brakspears beers but these were exceptionally bad. Seating was uncomfortable and I felt I was sitting in a corridor between 2 parts of the restaurant, effectively because I was. The staff were friendly enough.

In my opinion the garden has lost all it's character since building the bedroom annex and until the hedge matures it will feel like you are sitting in the carpark.

Food looked good but we didn't eat, I had a look at the menu and it seem very expensive. Nearly 12 for a beefburger.

The Black Horse, Emmer Green

A fantastic proper pub. Traditional split between Salon and public bar. Public bar has machines, sky tv pool table and darts board. Salon is a comfortable place to enjoy a superb pint in a relaxing and quiet atmosphere. The best pint of Deuchars IPA I have ever had. A real find staff are friendly and the place is immaculately clean. No food but in my opinion that's a good thing.

White Horse, Emmer Green

Tables Dirty, and a very smokey pub, even in the non-smoking area. Food is reasonable out of a packet stuff and is cheap, certainly not a Gastro pub as mentioned before. Can't hear yourself think sometimes as normally 4 TV's on each on a different channel and music playing as well. Not really recommended if you fancy a pint try the Blackhorse over the road

The Bottle and Glass, Binfield Heath

Excellent Pub Food and superb Beer. Lovely Garden. Best pub in the area for sensibly priced propper pub grub. Comes highly reccomended. Landlady is very efficient and staff friendly and welcoming. Just how a pub should be.

The Seven Stars, Knowl Hill

Just been taken over about a week ago and things are looking up already. I hadn't been before but collegues had and they were impresed with the changes. Good pint of Brakspear Bitter and the buffet we had was excellent. A lot to do but the new Landlord and Landlady seemed very committed. Watch this space!!

The Hatch Inn, Colemans Hatch

Excellent Beer and friendly staff, found the pub in The AA Pub Guide and went to have a nose. We didn't eat as it's very expensive (especially for a pub - Average main course is 15) but the food did look excellent and the menu very tempting.

The Chequers, Sevenoaks

Excellent beer and a good atmosphere. Didn't eat but the menu looked reasonably priced with all main courses around a fiver. Nice non-smoking area which was pleasant to sit in.

The George, Old Oxted

There are a few things that I hate when walking into a pub nowadays and one of them is as soon as you have stepped through the door being asked if you have booked a table or if you are planning on eating.

You guessed it, it happened here, put us right off having a drink, had a quick look at the menu thrust into our hands. Food looked expensive and not many people eating, all this combined with the attidude problem of the staff had us walking our of the door fairly quickly!

The Old Bell, Old Oxted

Reasonable food and Prices have certainly fallen since the last time we visited. Sunday roasts seem to be fresher with proper roasts instead of microwave meals.
Beer is reasonable and surroundings are OK. Service was standard for this size of pub, nothing excellent and nothing really bad.
I believe it's part of the Chef and Brewer chain!
