The Five Bells, Chelsfield

One of my regular haunts. The Five Bells is very well run by its current landlord and landlady (Ade and Kay). They have just had a beer festival lasting a week with over 20 real ales on offer. I tasted most, if not all of them and there was not a dud among them. The food is also good and all the regular bar staff are very friendly and efficient.

The Shore Inn, East Wittering

Popped in after a long walk along the beach in the early autumn sunshine. Friendly service and whilst they didn't have a great selection of real ale we did have a nice pint of Bombadier. Worth another visit I'd say.

The Lively Lady, Bracklesham Bay

We sought this pub out for a pint of Arundel Gold because it was listed under Arundel Brewery's outlets. No Gold on the day we went. Also no guest beer. The only real ale was London Pride. Once the barmaid had graciously deigned to interupt her lenghy mobile phone call to serve us we ordered two halves of the Pride. One was OK (if you like Pride). The other half was curiously flat and actually unpleasant. The decor is difficult to describe but I will attempt it. Modern, light, no atmosphere; as close as you could get to a McDonald's Pub. If you like that sort of thing, this pub is just for you. It is, alas not for me.

The Seal, Selsey

Popped in for a 'quick half'' after a brief stroll along the beach. Nice pub with a friendly barmaid. Good selection of local ales. We went in for the Arundel Gold but it wasn't on that week so had a Langham's Best Bitter instead. Tasty. Would like to have stayed for more but so many pubs....so little time....

The Cob and Pen, Littlehampton

We vsitied this charming non-gastro pub one Tuesday lunchtime in September 2009. The beer was excellent (Arundel Gold) as was the general ambience of this traditional town pub. The landlord could not have been more pleasant or welcoming. He also told us that it was a music pub with regular performances in the evenings.
