The Greys, Brighton

Had a spare hour early eve before meeting other folk so checked out the Greys as I hadn't been for about 5 years. Fantastic pint of Harveys, great soup & selection of bread - all came in at about 12.
Civilised atmosphere - the merits of Miles Davis being discussed at bar - but don't let that put you off.

The Marine, Eastbourne

Great old school pub. Like pubs used to be 20, 30 years ago (that's a compliment). Always look forward to going there especially at Christmas. Good selection of wine by the glass, ales also good. Food won't win any prizes but more than edible & plenty of it. Lots of seating & cosy booths. Friendly bar staff & landlord. Customers civilised also. Closes in the afternoon - just like pubs used to. Nice!

The Two Sawyers, Pett

Had never noticed or heard of the Two Sawyers before but found it as we drove up from Pett Level. As we were looking for somewhere to enjoy the last of the sun on Saturday eve we stopped for a drink. Clean pub, with a new feel. Pint of Harveys was very good, partner had a Cinzano & friend had a Pimms plus crisps - all came in at around 9 which I thought was good value. Sat at a table in the garden which was well kept, clean table, empty ash trays. The large car park quicky filled up in the 40 minutes we were there - obviously a popular place with locals & mobile Hastings types. Noticed that Darkstar was also on tap with Hogsback Ale coming soon. Would recommend for an afternoon stop off especially if the sun is out.

Robert de Mortain, Hastings

Decided to drop in here for a quick drink early Saturday afternoon as we had 45 minutes spare before catching the bus back into Hastings.
Took 10 minutes for barmaid to appear - all ales were off. Decided not to prolong the experience & went back to the bus stop. Rubbish!

The Pilot Inn, Eastbourne

Seems to have gone downhill in the last few years. Food here used to be great: proper home made mackerel patty & toast plus exceptional Harvey's Best - now just memories. Tatty upholstery & tired decor re-enforce the theme. In need of some TLC - to match it's fantastic location.

Ye Olde Ship Inn, Guildford

Decided to go here for a Sunday lunch last month. Six of us arrived at just before midday & besides our party there was only two other customers in the bar. Had heard much about how good the pizza is so ordered four of those & some jacket potatoes. Waited a small life time for food to arrive, kept being attended to by various clueless teenage staff. Food finally arriving just after 2 O'clock. Food not too great - pizza tomato topping tasting like it came straight from the puree tube. Seemed to be a complete lack of organisation in the kitchen & bar. Many disgruntled customers waiting. Prehaps just a v-bad hair day at Ye Olde Ship Inn - won't be returning in a hurry.
