Tudor Rose, Coulsdon

AT LAST GREAT PLACE TO EAT IN OLD COULSDON!! This is not a pub but more of a restaurant. Food and service are excellent and the place has been totally refurnished since its shoddy Ember Inn days. The decor is tasteful, the furnishings thoughtful with animal skin drapes over the sofas. The food is fresh and tasty & is served by people who actually seem to care. The complete opposite to the awful, couldn't care less attitude of the serving staff at The Fox on Coulsdon Common. Prices are a bit pricey but worth it for good food and service.

The Black Horse, Chorleywood

My wife and I were out for a walk at the beginning of January and literally stumbled across this place and WOW what a find! If there's a pub serving a better roast dinner I've yet to find it - my wife had beef and I had pork and it was delicious. There was a good range of cask ales as well but couldn't really try as driving. Certainly be going back for that Sunday roast though!! Full makrs to the chef!!

White Horse, Bourne End

We live in Hemel and visit this pub fairly regularly. The barstaff are friendly and the pub is well run by Grenville and Pauline. We always dine here when we visit and that has been mostly Saturday night and Sunday lunchtime and the food is always superb and, in my opinion, better than some up market restaurants. There's always a good fish menu as well. The AK is the best cask ale and a nice smooth well kept pint. Would certainly recommend - one of the best pubs for in eating in the area.

The Fox, Caterham

This is definitely a place to avoid! My family (of 7) pre-booked a table for 1pm on Sunday, 23rd January. First off we ordered drinks and set up a tab. No cask ales only John Smiths - then when I ordered food they couldn't put the food on the same tab and had to set up another tab. Then there was confusion over the Sunday two courses off 9.99 deal and the main menu (we had a mixture of orders from both) which resulted in us being charged for two meals we didn't have. The starter arrived quickly but then had an hour wait for the main. There seemed a lot of staff and it wasn't terribly busy but the organisation was appalling. The food was Ok for the price/this sort of gastropub but certainly would pay more for better service. The newly vamped Tudor Rose is probably a better bet and we'll be going there next time. This is the second time I've had terrible service at the Fox (the first being in December) and will avoid from now on.
