The Swan, Wheathampstead

The Swan has reopened. It looks much as it always did. I've been there twice, once on my own and once with a cycling group. I've been happy on both occasions and will, no doubt, use it again. They are good at coping with groups, even on a busy Sunday lunchtime.

Seems as though it is likely to reopen at Easter. It's taking a long time as it's a listed building.

The Clarendon, Chandlers Cross

I passed the pub last weekend and can confirm that it is closed.

I took a cycling group to this pub on 2nd June and they were very happy. Fast service and good value food. I've taken cycling groups there in the past and we've had a good experience every time.

The Bunch of Grapes, Bradford on Avon

I ate at this pub on 8th August on a cycling tour. The pie was expensive but the quality was good. Proper steak and enourmous size. Though I was hungry after a days'cycling I had to ask for a doggy bag. It even tasted good cold the following morning.

The Good Intent, Puttenham

I called in yesterday to find a beer festival in progress. A wide range of real ales were available - I enjoyed the Dark Star Festival. Also an excellent guitarist Tom Janssen. Check him out.

Walkers of Whitehall, Whitehall

I went there on the 30th December, i.e. a working day but between Christmas and the New Year so things were quiet. I was quite impressed. The Lord Moon over the road was packed out so we were looking for somewhere else and it was an oasis of peace and quiet. No complaints about either the food or the beer.

The Tally Ho, North Finchley

I come here quite regularly, usually once or twice a month. I haven't had the problems with drunken chavs that some others have reported. I usually go to eat in the upstairs area which is usually quieter though it can ger very busy, particularly on Thursday curry nights. I think it is true that service there is slightly slower than it used to be but it still offers the best value both for beer and food in the North Finchley area.
