The Rising Sun, Bath

Popped in here with my wife late afternoon yesterday. We had just left Old Green Tree, where my wife had been rather upset by group of locals talking at top of their voices about very deviant sexual practices. Lo and behold, as soon as we stepped through the door of the Rising Sun, we heard the same topic being discussed by a wholly other group: it seems that Bath may have become a hotbed of S & M and bondage! I think we'll stay in the confines of the Welsh Valleys in future!

However, unlike the Old Green Tree, we were able to escape the filthy discussion by retreating to the back garden. This was a wonderful space, and must qualify as one of the most interesting pub gardens in the country.

Bath publicans need to be a bit more vigilant about the conversational topics on their premises.

The Old Green Tree, Bath

I hadn't been in this pub for some time - always been one of my favorites on visits to Bath. My wife and I popped in round lunchtime yesterday - group of local men talking very loudly about some deviant sexual practices, not the sort of conversation for a lady to endure over a well-prepared gin-and-tonic.

Notwithstanding, the rotund and jovial little landlord was as welcoming as ever.

The Kings Arms, Bradford on Avon

Visited this pub for the first time yesterday, while out on a day's walk. I was very impressed by the friendliness of the landlady, and by the quality of the beer. I had a pint of GK St Edmunds - a new line, I believe, and certainly new to me - it was excellent and in great condition; it was my lucky day, as I was given a second pint free to promote the new beer!

This pub has all the positive characteristics of a traditional town pub, and seems to be kept absolutely clean and tidy. If you don't already know it, and have the opportunity, then do give it a try. I think I shall be making the trip from Bath more often!

The Coeur de Lion, Bath

After my previous visit, and somewhat negative comments, in September, I was back in Bath last weekend - and glad to report that this pub seems back on track again.

The staff were really positive and welcoming, and the place just looks a lot cleaner, tidier and cared-for. Good news!

The Rising Sun, Bath

Hadn't been in Bath for several months. Used to pop into Rising Sun in the past, as we generally park down the road from there. Last time I was in Bath, it was shut.

Now it seems to have re-opened under new management, and it has a really good feel. Smart, but retaining a local feel.

The Coeur de Lion, Bath

Hadn't been to this pub for about a year until this weekend. My impression, while there was that it has gone considerably downhill.

There were two large dogs roaming the very small room (their owners appeared to be sitting outside) where a few people were eating - this is really not acceptable from a health point of view. Barman seemed serenely oblivious to what might be seen as an issue.

Hope it picks up - as it's a great little space, with good local beer.
