The Boot, St Albans

I have seen that weird black guy shouting out loud in tesco and also skulking around Victoria playing fields and in St Michaels with a bottle in his hand. Will avoid this place if it's his local as I could not tell you whether he his care in the community or a serial killer to be honest.

Moor Mill, Bricket Wood

Took the kids to sit out in the sun and see the ducks, very disappointed, everything was filthy. Fag butts and litter under the tables, dirty menus, dirty high chair, dirty cutlery and a pair of old knickers in the play ground. It was mildly interesting to walk around the grounds and see the streams, the wier and the water mill but the food and drink was poor quality and value. I was there at early doors so no excuse for not having cleaned the place up, they just don't give a monkeys.

Blue Anchor, St Albans

Half pub half restaurant, infact actually the resaurant room is bigger than the bar. Really superb food with friendly service. Subtle modern decor with nice ambience. Go down the road into St Michaels if you want an old school local boozer.

The Verulam Arms, St Albans

I agree about it being over rated. My recent experiences were it took ages to be served at the bar even though it was almost empty. All the tables are permanently set for dinner which does not make for a great drinking ambience. I had originally stopped by for a pint on route to food in town but then heavy rain started I enquired about eating in the pub instead. They told me no chance it was fully booked. I commented there was nobody else in and barmaid said all the bookings were for 7pm. I stayed until about 8 when the rain stopped and it was barely half full and none of the tables had reserved signs out anyway. Bizarre! In summary it feels like a restaurant not a pub - and they wouldn't let me sample the cooking so can't comment on that. Oh yeah and it was fairly pricey too!
