The Victoria Hotel, Leeds

Proper old Leeds boozer with plenty of old charm & charicter. really like this pub & the ale is always of a good standard...Nice for a pint at any time but really enjoy a pre christmas tipple here.

Mr Foley's Cask Ale House, Leeds

Good place for a pint or two in Leeds, Bar area is quite small but the open split level rooms to the side are pretty big with some comfy seating. Ever changing ales which always seem good, worth a try.

Marquis of Granby Inn, Knaresborough

Great homely Sam Smiths Boozer, No TV, No Music, just good sensibly priced beer in a friendly atmosphere, Open fires in winter months, a ral fav when we're in Knaresborough.

Great old boozer reopened recently as The Polished Knob. Good beer reasonably priced, good food & Live bands some evenings, Close to both the bus & Train stations. worth a visit.

Unicorn Hotel, Ripon

Big old pub on the market place, Nice rooms & pleasant staff make this one of wetherspoons better pubs. Im not an ale drinker but my friends assured me that there was enough choice to keep them happy, Coors light on draught for me here which has been missing from other wetherspoons for a couple of years now? hope its making a welcome return? worth calling in for a pint or two.

The One Eyed Rat, Ripon

Great pub, friendly staff & locals, good choice of ales for my friends & good choice of quality lagers for myself, & all reasonably priced. Big beer garden to the rear, a gem of a pub.

Magdalens, Ripon

Not an easy one to find to be honest, nice well kept beer garden for sunny days but the inside of the pub is nothing special, seems to be a bit of a locals pub but they were friendly enough.
Sadly if your not an ale drinker then the choice of lager is limited to bog standard carlsberg or Fosters on draught (some bottled stuff ok) but we found it a little expensive charging city prices for low grade 4% lager.

Lamb and Flag, Ripon

Good pub with nice beer garden to the side for sunny days. worth calling for a pint or two.

The Golden Lion, Ripon

Nice friendly boozer, food looked good all though we didn't try any. worth calling in for a couple of pints.

The Rutland, Chesterfield

Had a good range of ales & bar man was friendly enough,
Called for a mid week afternoon pint & the place wasn't very busy,
This is not the pubs fault but it beats me how some of these places survive? But it has to be said that when a pint of Becks hits the 3 mark then your clients go from being exclusive to elusive.
Having said that this pub does have a good vibe about it.

Portland Hotel, Chesterfield

Large, busy, & friendly above average Wetherspoons in an ideal spot for exploring Chesterfield & the surrounding area,
Usual wetherspoons fair with good cheap food & drink & very good accomodation for the money,
It has to be said that this pub must be cheaper than meals on wheels for lunches judging by the amount of over 60's eating in here, As the day goes on though the clientel changes to a more middle age/young crowd which is the sign of a true town centre pub when all walks of the community use it regularly. Friendly helpful staff help this pub stand out from its sister pub.

Spa Lane Vaults, Chesterfield

Called in here on Wednesday 16th Sept @ 4.15pm. There were possibly at most 10 people in drinking. We decided to have a change from the usual beer & ordered a Jug of Cheeky V, the jug was made up behind the bar & wasn't even stirred... When we asked if they had anything to stir it with we just got a "No" Now i find it had to absorb that a bar doesn't have a stirring impliment? also that they couldn't go into the kitchen & get a spoon.
Thinking on my toes i asked if we could have straws (Thinking i could use these to stir) i was told they didn't have any straws either,
Now call me cynical but you would have thought that a bar with only 10 punters in would not have run out of straws or stirring impliments on a quiet wednesday afternoon. Or was it a case of the member of staff getting out of the wrong side of the bed & not being able to be bothered? I was going to mention this to the manager on leaving but soon realised that the person who served us was the Duty Manger!!!
Do yourself a favour & miss this one out.

The Market, Chesterfield

We liked this pub, was one of the few pubs in Chesterfield that was busy mid week & we could only put this down to the good quality home cooked food, Good choice of drinks, friendly staff, & locals.
If anything it was a little more pricey than other pubs but hey! its opposite a wetherspoons & still gets people in so im not the only one who thinks it was worth the 10p or so a pint extra for the atmospher.

The Lendal Cellars, York

Great little bar with underground vaults, Possibly not the best in York but one of my firm favs when i visit. Has always had a friendly atmospher when i have been there, So was unhappy to read about its dog policy in one of the reviews below, As someone who lives in an area where this is not a problem i don't understand it.

The Pied Bull, Chester

Great old boozer this. Stay every December after it was recomended by friends & i has become one of the highlighs of our year.
The staff have always been friendly & the drinks & food have always been good, Would recomend you stay over ino ne of the haunted rooms!!!

The Boot Inn, Chester

One of my fav pubs in Chester a meeting place when ever we visit, Great Sam Smiths pub with plenty of charm charicter, add to this Sam Smiths reasonable pricing & you have a great little boozer.

The Half Moon, Durham

The only downside to this pub is the slow service, only the upper bar was being used when we were there &There were only two staff trying there best to man it. Other than that his is a cracking little town centre pub with good ales/cider/lager, Cant coment on he food as we didnt eat there but there were pleny of people ordering toasted sandwiches which only left one bar person to do the bar.
The atmospher is friendly enough if he weather is good he beer garden out back is a great sun trap.

Angel Inn, Durham

Visited back in May with friends & found this little gem of a pub thanks to this website. The four of us spent the best part of friday afternoon in there & had a wonderful time. Good priced beer & friendly staff (even to us Yorkshire folk)
Yes its a rock pub & yes its got a bit of graffiti in the beer garden, but this makes the place & gives it charicter, There is no other pub in Durham like the angel so if you dont tr it yo'l miss out.

The Masons Arms, Todmorden

Great little pub on the outskirts of Todmorden, Copper dragon beers on pump & friendly bar staff, Called in here a couple of Fridays ago whilst visiting family & left well refreshed.
Open fire, Beams & wooden tables compleat the traditional pub feel,
The food is also recomended & i was told Sunday lunch is very good...A hiden gem.

10 Sep 2009 15:12

Legends Bar, Batley

loud, noisey, brash, & boisterous. A typical city disco pub plonked on the outskirts of a working class mill / market town on what Batley proudly calls its "Golden Mile".
The pub is well run with the typical range of clubby type beers.
If your idea of a good night out is spending it surrounded by pop artifacts, a plastic Elvis or Monroe, & groups of shouty town folk then this is the place for you.

24 Jun 2009 09:57

The Quayside, Newcastle

Above average chain pub & a regular stop when im in Newcastle. Usual range of beers, friendly staff, & good chain pub food, Above all the view of the river & the cobbled beer garden make this pub a good place for a pint at lunch, as the day wears on the pub changes to a more club atmostpher with upbeat tunes & disco lighting but still has a friendly feel.

24 Jun 2009 09:42

The Cellar Bar, Batley

Great little pub, sadly a bit quiet during the week but comes alive at weekends with friendly barstaff & locals. Good range of real ales/cider changed regularly plus your usual mix of lagers & ciders. Good mix of music from the 70's to present day on " Big Fat Fridays" & Live music on Saturday nights.
Ideally situated close to the train station at Batley.
