The Waggon and Horses, Surbiton

Beg to differ, it's nothing like a W*th*rsp**n's, thank God. I've always found this place agreeably convivial yet at the same time happily pest-free. But you're right about the most important thing, you'll get the best Youngs for miles.

The Prince William Henry, Southwark

It didn't look welcoming from the street but we had well-kept Youngs in a much nicer pub than some of the places near Waterloo and the tube stations. Even managed to get a table as soon as we arrived. Didn't try the food but the portions looked generous and the plates were cleared. Worth a visit if you find youself in Southwark/Waterloo.

The Greyhound Inn, Letcombe Regis

This place was a pleasant surprise after seeing the 5.5 rating. I can only disagree with it: nicely kept Morlands, friendly bar staff, non-smoking area, more veggie choice on the menu than I've seen in some city pubs and a decent-sized beer garden with an Aunt Sally. We went on the two nights we were staying at the Youth Hostel and had a great time. We'll be back!

The Stag, Hastings

Came here in the middle of the Jack-in-the-Green celebrations. Given a warm welcome and a perfect pint of Early Bird. For fans of the weird, there are some mummified mammal finds in a case on the wall. For the fresh air fans there is a sloping beer garden.

This place is lovely!

The Rose and Crown, Kew

So-so beer and the sandwich-y lunch was OK when it eventually arrived. But it took blooming ages and only fabulous food is worth the wait. The most praise I can offer is that that the ladies loos were spotless and smelt nice.

Won't come back here when there are far better pubs a short walk in all directions.

The Coach and Horses, Kew

The beer is always good but it can get too smokey and stuffy. Most Friday nights it's crowded out with staff from the National Archives or Kew Gardens, or both (ie heav-ing-ly busy!).

The Spring Grove, Kingston Upon Thames

Plus points - the Youngs special was very nice. Three of us agreed on that.
Minus points - the barman looked utterly non-plussed when asked for a bottle of pale ale. Same reaction when asked for a bottle of mild ("Are they drinks?" oh dear...). My pal was not pleased with chocolate stout only being offered ice cold. But it was busy for a weeknight and maybe it was the barman's first night behind the bar and he was feeling flustered and accidently put all the stout in the fridge.

I'd like to go back to see if it is a 6.8 but for now it's just a 5.

The Grove Tavern, Surbiton

It said IPA but I wasn't impressed with my pint. TV was way too LOUD to hear the person next to me although no-one seemed to be watching (to be fair, I think they were waiting for the football to start). Not planning to return.

The Antelope, Surbiton

Decent beer AND The Dead Kennedys - how pleased was I? Staff were nice enough too. Didn't have to wait long to get served and it's less expensive than some of the places nearer the station. Good place if you're not looking for a quiet chat!

The Coronation Hall, Surbiton

Yep, the lure of JDW prices enticed us through the door. And we found a table in the gallery area and the beer was OK. But oh my goodness, the place was barking mad. And not in a good way. We had a superb vantage point to take in the squabbles and arguments, to observe the body language of "deeply offended" as well as "about to cop off with the wrong person". No fights while we were there but I can imagine there might well have been after we left. Maybe a good idea that there's no music - one less thing for the lively punters to argue about. Best as an early evening pub I'd say.

The Surbiton Flyer, Surbiton

It's been a bit "suited" whenever I've been in but maybe I've gone on Lodge nights or it might have been an Estate Agent awayday...Anywaaaay, projected voices aside, this place is worth a visit for the selection of well-kept Fullers. Very handy for the station too.

The Victoria, Surbiton

Blimey Charlie, the re-fit is not bad at all. I was dreading it but I was wrong. Hurrah. The Youngs is still up to standard (haven't tried the food yet).

Not the best pub in Surb but if I told you where that is I'd never get a seat on a Saturday night!

The Waggon and Horses, Surbiton

My mates and I LOVE this place - a lovely pint, nice bar staff, no dodgy punters (hey, a gal can't be too careful) and good transport links. And the Sunday lunch was good too. Yes, the Surbiton area is blessed with a few decent pubs but this is easily my favourite.
