The Long Room Bar and Hotel, Tooting

This is a good spot. The Mitre had been an absolute hell-hole, one of the worst pubs I had ever been to. This place is tastefully done, with friendly staff and okay music. A good place in which to meet a friend in Tooting. My only issues would be the dearth of real ales and the fact that so many of the seats are high stools or backless leather poof-like efforts.

The sofas are comfortable. I give it a seven.

The Greyhound, Carshalton

This seemed like a nice enough pub. I went there for a Sunday roast with my wife and my parents. Decent food, washed down with perfectly good ale.

Service was good. 7/10.

Waxy O'Connors, Piccadilly

Boss, the reason I go here is so that I get to see sports at the weekend.

Waxys is reliable for showing sport.

INDO, Whitechapel

Very nice pub with lovely staff. I used to live nearby, and the girl who worked there was probably the most attractive girl I ever spoke to. She seems to have left, but the bar is still excellent. I gave 9, as the beer isn't as good as it could be, but the decor, crowd and music are all top-notch.

The Gorringe Park, Tooting

I went in here on a Bank Holiday Sunday night with my missus, my brother and his missus. I live nearby, and am quite keen to be able to find a pub that my wife and I can frequent without getting on public transport. The dearth of decent pubs in Tooting is well documented, with only The Selkirk and The Trafalgar Arms being passable.

Like the reviewer below says, we went in the front door and got a bit of a shock. Lots of rough looking people, which I don't mind, but the ladies were a bit uncomfortable. We went into the back bar, which was quieter, but there were still a couple of freak shows having a pint (on their own, of course). The carpet is filthy, the place is odd, but I liked it. The landlord (Mike) was very welcoming because:
a) we're Irish
b) we are not over 60 and hideously ugly like most of the people in there, and would like us to return
c) he was really drunk

Anyway, we ended up getting bought drinks by this very friendly (and drunk) man. I will return if I am with mates, but I doubt my wife would like to drink there again.

O'Neills, Dublin

I hate this place. Needs to be done up, food is minging, Guinness is poor, and it is full of tourists and culchie students. Not a patch on its namesake down on Pearse St.

Ryans Bar, Blackfriars

Went there for Champs League Final last night. We went downstairs for pies and beer. Nice pints of Guinness, and a great view of the match. We will certainly be returning for a few of the World Cup games, and maybe even Ireland games in the autumn.

The pies were pretty tasty, too.

The State Bar, Glasgow

Had a great few sessions in there one week in Glasgow with a load of mates. Nice beer, saucy barmaid and a real feel that you're away from it all.

That was three years ago, mind.

The Palace Bar, Temple Bar

Good boozer. Nice pints.

Messrs Maguire, Dublin

Full of slappers with fake tan. Crap beer. I would imagine it's a great place to go if you are looking for your hole. Avoid it like the plague, unless you are after a leery man or a young Celtic Tiger floosy.

McDaids, Dublin

Used to be a jazz session on a Monday night, which was fairly cool. I have not been impressed on the odd occasion that I have dropped in recently. There are better pubs nearby.

John Mulligan, Dublin

Very good pint. Bit of a darker taste. I have been there a few times for a cheeky one before catching the bus from Westmoreland Street. Has avoided the tosser clientele; mainly full of office workers who like a nice beer a few younger people who look fairly sound and a few older alcoholics who cause no fuss.

Kehoe's, Dublin

Very crowded. Nice beer. Few too many tourists. Decent place to bring some foreign friends if you want to give them a faux-authentic Irish pub.

Hairy Lemon, Dublin

Okay pint. Few too many nouveau riche shapers of a Saturday. Not the worst place to get dragged to, but not the best bar in the area by any stretch.

The Dawson Lounge, Dublin

Decent atmosphere. Smallest pub in the universe or something. Nice place to get a decent beer close to Grafton Street.
