Ye Olde White Bear, Hampstead

@ georgesmiley:

I tend to comment when I am particularly frustrated by something, which would explain why my comments are mainly negative.
I reiterate my point, bad food, good staff and beer. Bad food is not a reason to avoid a pub, just not to eat there. I like the Bear, and will be in tonight.

The Five Bells, East Finchley

reasonable well kept ale at 2.60- 2.70 a pint

big chain pub, wouldnt touch the food, sure its all microwaved or deep fryed - it must be for the prices they charge.

Ye Olde White Bear, Hampstead

Bad food. The meat in the pie was very chewy and undercooked, and the pie had no sides.

Barmaid happy to refund, methinks they get a lot of complaints as she wasnt suprised.

Reasonable selection of ales at normal hampstead prices, (2.70-3.10)

Spaniards Inn, Hampstead Heath

This is the closest pub to my house, which is why I still pop in occasionally.

The service is some of the very worst in London, and the prices some of the dearest.

If you can get service, do not expect a smile. Also expect the 21+ rule to be randomly enforced, usually when the pub is empty and you turn up with a group of drinkers, one of which may be 19 or 20.

Avoid.

Crown and Goose, Camden

Best real pub in camden. A bit pricey, but well kept Adnams at 3 a pint is a winner.

The chick serving when we were in is hot!!! what a bonus.

Digress, Moorgate

crappy commercial shithole, got chatted up by some essex girls. only thing close to ale was leffe blonde at 3.90 a bottle,... heres the best bit, house rules state that the bar staff must pour the beers into glasses, fair enough. House rules also state that on Friday nights they have to use plastic cups... end result, 3.90 for 2 thirds of a pint of leffe. avoid at all costs.

The Bree Louise, Euston

Recently discovered this wonderful pub, run by Craig (the friendly landlord) and his family. Craig is pleasant and enjoys the ales and is happy to offer his advice when selecting a new beer. A wonderful extensive constantly changing selection of fresh real ales, both on handpump and gravity pour is available, along with lagers and ciders.

I was particularly impressed with the level of customer service shown; whilst I was visiting a lady was unhappy with a drink, and whilst she clearly was not wishing to make a fuss the landlord immediately insisted on replacing the drink.

The food looks and smells delicious, but I have yet to try any.

only thing this pub needs is a pool table, 4.8/5

The Holly Bush, Hampstead

Excellent news that Jesus has been fired, not a day to soon in my opinion. I had been a local for several years, often coming in 4+ times per week, and at least once per month. That was until one day I took some family for a special meal in the dining room upstairs, and we waited over an hour until finally some burnt and badly made pies turned up, which were well below the usual excellent standard of cooking by Mikey the head chef (who was not working that day).
All seemed fine though, and we did not have to pay for the meals (not that we would have done).

However, when I returned a few weeks later and tried to buy a pint I was refused by the manager (jesus) and barred, told that there were other places I could drink and that I was not welcome if I was going to complain when occasionally something went wrong.

Anyway, I will try it again in the next few days now that a new manager has been found, and report back on here.
