The Wellington Arms, Weymouth

In the heart of Weymouth town but relatively hidden in a side street a couple/few blocks back from the sea front.
A nice "traditional" pub.
Got a good welcome (Sat 13 Aug 2011) and had a really great pint of Ringwood 49'er.
Maybe it was because I had just walked the costal path from Osmington Mills... Or maybe it was because of the perfect first pint... But I just had to have another. I did!!

The Sunray at Osmington, Osmington

Oh dear. What a terrible experience I had last Friday (12 Aug 2011). Ordered a pint of local ale - Piddle. Came out really cloudy, not a good taste. Swapped it for a Ringwood Best. That was only slightly better. Sat and watched as other customers pondered over the poor quality of the beer; sat at tall sticky table. Barmaid (who had just had a "head rush") flushed through the Ringwood Best. She was so proud of her work she put a pint (that was clearing quite slowly) on the bar on front of two guys to "prove she could do it". Didn't (couldn't) stay for another.
Met local guy on bus from Weymouth on Saturday who agreed with my summary and he thinks they change management annually. He doesn't 'use' this pub.

The Spring Inn, Sulhamstead

Just re-opened earlier this week. Quite busy yesterday (Friday) evening. Good selection of well kept ales: Triple FFF, Ascot ++

Shame about the smell coming off adjacent fields; that killed the apetite for food.

Will go back soon.

The Land of Liberty, Peace and Plenty, Heronsgate

*** Congratulations ***

Winner for Hertfordshire Pub of the Year.

Sorry I cannot be there tonight for the presentation, but I did pop in yesterday for a swifty.

Smashing pub. Well done.

The Spring Inn, Sulhamstead

Had to return the first pint. It didn't 'pull' very well, was cloudy and Sarsons would have been proud of it.

It was so bad that the after-taste ruined the replacement pint.

Food arrived fairly promptly but it wasn't what we ordered. Surprising, because the food order was entered through the till system. Otherwise, good.

Poor service: plates were taken before we had all finished eating.

Health inspectors might have something to say about having a 14 month baby in a nappy and tee shirt sitting on the serving bar.

Would not return out of choice.

The Plough, Little London

What a gem. A real traditional pub, great beers from the barrel or handpump. Regularly serves locally brewed beers - West Berks Brewery. Ringwood Best on handpump.

Expect everybody to stop and stare on your first visit. Next time you'll be on first name terms.

Bar billiards (1 good 20 minutes). Fires in winter, garden in summer.

Unusual clock face in corner,

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

Smashing place that I just have to seek out at lunchtime when I'm up in the City.

Have to judge arrival time to get a seat though. OK in summer - stand in alley and rest beer on barels.

Fowlers, Ryde

Signage for Family area is confusing - got moved from non-smoking area to upstairs.

Didn't actually eat or drink in here because it took 3 trips to bar to be continually told that our choice of food was not available.

Final straw was spotty kid (manager?) who came up and said "we ain't got nothing".

Despite the double negative I assumed they could not serve us so we found a nicer place down the road.
