My understanding from the locals is that the refurb will be more sympathetic. Levels of service and food quality should be higher but I daresay so will the prices. My sources say it should reopen 23rd June. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Unlike Bullfrog1 I found that the portions are fine and the quality and value for money very good. Wonderful real ales too! The best in the area as far as I am concerned. I will certainly be back.

I have a suggestion for the atmosphere question - the lights are too bright. I sat near the front entrance in the dining section and it was a bit dazzling. Lower wattage bulbs are the order of the day for me. Food was good overall - the ribs could have done with being cooked a bit longer. Beer was good also. Staff were efficient but friendly. The telly was brought out for the rugby, which cheered my wife. It might have been a tad more professional if the two chefs were not peering over the bar at it though (the rugby, not the wife!). Certainly deserves better than the current rating.

A fine pub - now a rarity. If you're looking for a traditional country pub with excellent beers and decent food there are now, sadly, hardly any competitors left in the area.

The White Hart, Chipstead
Having not used this pub for some time I have visited a few times recently. I am pleased to say that I'm very impressed. The manager and all of the staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome. You get the impression that they genuinely want to be there and to help, rather than it being a chore that they endure to make some money. There is a fair range of ales and the menu is enticing. I haven't eaten there yet but the food I have seen go out looks great.
I would give this place top marks were it not for the lack of a garden to sit in on a sunny day. There is a terrace but it is adjacent to the road junction, so it's not ideal.
