The Orange Brewery, Belgravia

Has a treading water feel to it. Seems to waiting for something to happen and it never does. Has fallen victim to the large breweries' "latest trend" obsession. While it was all the rage to brew your own beer the brewery supported it. Now they've lost interest and it shows. Still a pleasant place nonetheless

The Lord Nelson, Sydney

Great place for a decent pint. Had a run in with some stupid old drunk who stole the stool from under my wife's posterior. I thought it unwise to be arrested for beating up an old man however annoying. Rest of the clientele were pleasant, happy souls. Well worth a visit.

The Leopard, Erdington

Haunted by the ghosts of Tommy the Trout and Murph, it is always 1975 and the beer is always lousy. One New Year's Eve I was in the company of 2 ruffians when a fight started. We were ejected and barred from our beloved pub. Who were these ruffians ask either of the licensees, for 'twas they. The lunatics have taken over the asylum !

The Surrey Oaks, Newdigate

Did you say non smoking. Was going to come to the Beer Festival me and my mates will have to find somewhere a bit less Surrey. Do you allow alcohol in your beer Southereners ? Don't forget leave your 4 WD at home what what ....

The White Hart, Arundel

Although he witters on like a typical CAMRA bore. Ale quaffer is right. Oh how I miss the Arundel beers and now even the Gales is being brewed in the smoke. Oh woe is me !!

The Lower Angel, Warrington

Where were these famed real ales ? Pretty limited. Is Burton Bitter the summit of your ambitions ?

Tavern, Warrington

Where were thise phantom selection of real ales. Tetley's or Speckled Hen hardly very exciting is it ?

The Barley Mow, Warrington

Beautiful building inside and out. However the down side is it's owned by Carlsberg Tetley. Couldn't run a pub in a million years.

The Crown Inn, Stockport

Second time I've been in here. Great place. It has that sort of lived in look and feel, like me. As the previous people have said beer choice brilliant ( would have liked a mild or porter but hey that's being greedy) People very friendly - I didn't want to leave. That's my one criticism - it closes, should be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by law !

The Barn Owl Inn, Lymm

Food great and good value for money. Beer selection average really. One guest ale then Marstons Pedigree and Adnams. Lovely situation. Live music was certainly live but as to whether it counts as music ?!
Still the regulars seemed to enjoy it. Then they enjoyed some bloke getting up and singing "Hi Ho Silver Lining".A bit disappointed if I'm honest, it promised so much ! Oh yes and the barmaids fancy themselves a bit as well. Can't imagine why.

The Maypole Inn, Yapton

This is a pub. Not a restaurant. Not a health spa. The beer is just fab even the array of soft drinks are mind boggling.God bless the Arundel Mild

The Six Bells, Billingshurst

For all you youngsters out there. Like all ex King & Barnes pubs this USED TO have lots of character and great beer. Now it's a Badger pub - the one's who put the bland in Blandford.

The Halfway Bridge Inn, Lodsworth

Which miserable so and so gave it 4 out of 10 ? Very pleasant pub. Nice drop of Cheriton Pots. Agreeable menu.

The Three Moles Inn, Selham

Great pub. Viv is a star of the first order. Keep a look out for the labradoodle. Always an interesting array of handpumps. No hot food. A great beer festival at the start of the summer

Ye Old Stout House, Horsham

Oh not the quaffer again !
This pubs opening times are dictated by chaos theory

The Black Jug, Horsham

Overpriced by far. This is Horsham. Mind you their pubs in Chester are just as dear

The Bedford, Horsham

Used to be okay till all the non smoking bollocks

The Bear, Horsham

Used to be a great pub but another one "Badgered to death"

The Flowerpots Inn, Cheriton

Great pub but why is it closed so bloody much

Three Horseshoes, Elsted

Lovely garden, one of the best views of the South Downs you're ever likely to encounter. Nice beer, nice food.HOWEVER, the gaffer doesn't like too much work, so closes a lot of the time. Gets very full of Range Rover types who wouldn't know a pub from a restaurant with a beer concession

The Elephant and Castle, West Chiltington

Badger pub. nuff said

1 Sep 2005 15:20

The Red Lion, Erdington

Sorry. Did you say well kept beers ? I thought you did.

26 Aug 2005 14:19

The Five Bells, West Chiltington

Lovely pub. Hard to get to without a car or risking life walking on narrow unlit country lanes. Always a choice of about 6 different beers usually including a mild. Don't eat if you're a vegetarian; there is absolutely nothing on the menu for you

26 Aug 2005 14:13

The White Horse, Pulborough

Lovely pub with great view of the Downs from the front windows. Very pleasant garden with lovely view from most tables. Beer range Fullers usually including their seasonal beer and a guest too. Food was over ambitious and over priced for a pub really. Depends what you want I suppose.

26 Aug 2005 14:09

The Oddfellows Arms, Pulborough

Lovely building. Beer choice disappointing. Clientele the lower end of intellectual and social scale, particularly at traditional chav times ( Friday and Saturday)
