George Hotel, Hailsham

It's been a Wetherspoons since 2010, and perhaps an above average one. Sometimes service is slow with a queue at the bar. The real ales and guest beers have improved of late with cheap prices, cheaper than Wetherspoon pubs in nearby towns. It's usually 1.89 a pint for a guest beer, 1.69 on Wednesdays!

Victoria Hotel, Eastbourne

It's not the Victorian terraces of Albert Square but the Victorian terraces of Latimer Road. It's not the Queen Vic, it's the Victoria Hotel. And they're not Eastenders, they're Eastbourne-enders, but you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in the Queen Vic.

When I visited they had on handpump Harvey's Best, Old, Armada and Fuller's Porter. The Armada was my favourite: the landlord told me they have this on all year round. Good reasonably priced homecooked food served Thursday to Sunday.

The Kings Head, Lower Horsebridge

Very much improved under the new owner. Harvey's Best and Old were on the handpumps. I had a couple of pints of Best which was went down nicely. The food was good too with main dishes from about 7 or a pensioners lunch, with smaller portions at 5.50 for two courses. It's not far from The Cuckoo Trail, has a large car park and is on the 52 bus route.

The Thoroughbred, Polegate

I agree with DangerousChris (below). Yes, a friendly landlady and regulars. Quite different from all the chain pubs. They had a couple of Hammerpot Real Ales which come from a small brewery in West Sussex.

Kings Head, Hailsham

The best pub in Hailsham, definitely worth the walk down South Road. Very well kept Harvey's beers. A friendly and traditional boozer. They don't do meals and they are not open at lunchtimes Mondays to Thursdays. Have a Darts Team and Pool Table.
