The Mill, Cambridge

Despite its location almost nothing to commend this pub with a landlord displaying a terrible attitude to customers. A visit on Saturday for a last pint where a pint and a glass of wine was expensive ...... landlord opined that his business was only about selling to tourists, occasional students and "very few" locals. When further prompted acknowledged that he didn't care at all about locals as they are so unimportant to his business. Beer was OK, wine was undrinkable, attitude was terrible. Don't disappoint the guy by trying to become a local you wont be valued. If on a visit to Cambridge avoid it and go to a place which at least pretends you are important...........

The Castle Inn, Cambridge

Visited Friday 7th November - good beer selection from Adnams (Abbey, Explorer, Bitter, Broadside and Old Ale), Tim Taylors Landlord, Nethergate Umbel Magna & Suffolk County plus Mad Goose from Purity Brewing Co. The TT Landlord was acceptable but not great. The other Umbel Magna was good and the bitter well kept. This is a good pub, decent surroundings, a large student crowd and a good atmosphere but something about it feels a bit soulless. Just go for the beers then.

Steam, Paddington

Everything that is bad about an hotel bar - no real ales and high prices.

The Fountains Abbey, Paddington

A rare occurrence this walked in and walked straight through - stank of sour stale beer and filled with depressed looking people filling in time - joyless, depressing and smelly - AVOID!

The Sawyers Arms, Paddington

Distinguishes itself from the very proximate competion by not having the sour smell of stale beer. Owned by the Green King Pub Company by the look of it with all the negatives that that brings including a menu that could be found anywhere except a traditional pub including such classics as duck and hoi son sauce wrap. Having said that a very decent pint of Abbot from a selection including IPA & Speckled Hen, the London Ale was off. Overall just about fit for purpose if that purpose is a quick beer en route to somewhere else!

The Land of Liberty, Peace and Plenty, Heronsgate

Great pub - four or five excellent beers including Tring Liberty, two from Hertford Brewery (Blonde & Conservation) and several others including a stout. A couple of the beers went off during the stay and were immediately replaced with new alternatives so lots of choice. Good service, a business like hum to the place and much appreciation of the beer from all.
