user reviews of Rose & Crown, Ilkley

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Rammed packed at 8pm on a Saturday night. Fairly easy to get served, as all the barmen were on it and knew who was next. 4 hand pumps with 3 ales on, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Saltaire Blond and Leeds Pale which was very decent.

Open plan throughout with a separate dining area to the left of the door as you come in.

We stayed for a couple of hours and by 10pm it had emptied a bit with most people moving onto the other bars in town.

Never been here before but will visit again when next in Ilkley.

This place has changed it's name twice since being the Rose and Crown. It used to be nightclub Renaissance and now it's a posh bar called 'The Black Hat'. The Black Hat is a bit of a 'posers palace' really, lads wearing fedoras with beards and glasses, not sure where they come from as I never see these lot around Ilkley. The ale is actually quite nice, Timothy Taylor landlord, Saltaire Blonde, Black Sheep best bitter are the options and are really well kept. It is a tad pricey, the blonde is 3.30 and Landlord is about 3.50-60. Bit what do you expect in a place like this in a town like Ilkley. Not bad for a couple and it has a decent outdoor seating area so ono a nice day it may be worth coming down to but I would say there's better pubs in Ilkley.

It was shut for a while but now reopened under new managership. No real ale, so not my kind of pub, but that sets it apart from most of the rest of Ilkley's boozers.

An amazing find. Excellent customer service and high standards. A warm and welcoming outlet, with a real community feel. Great place to go to see live music, regular live bands and DJs. High quality, traditional pub grub and a wide range of drink products including tetleys and other bitters. I was pleasantly surprised to stumble across this pub in Ilkley and the B&B accomodation was more than reasonable and well run. Definitely a pub to visit even if you are not local to Ilkley.
