Having seen a number of poor reviews (albeit dated a year or two ago), we nearly didn't go there to eat, but wanted to have a look at the Folk Club that meets there each Thursday, so "risked" it. It was a quiet night and we were strangers, but we were welcomed pleasantly. There was a good range of food on the menu, at reasonable prices. It wasn't "haute cuisine", but good, well cooked, wholesome food, which we enjoyed. 2 meals (one of which sirloin steak, properly cooked to my required taste), 2 desserts, and 2 drinks came to 30.60, which we considered good value. We are quite likely to be going there again (And the Folk Club was busy and friendly) .

Shabby pub, should have a sign outside saying "strictly locals only". We went here after a walk for lunch only to be told by the rude barman "we don't serve walk-ins you have to book in advance." Even though the menu on the front of the building said otherwise. The restaurant was half full so they had space. I questioned diners who said they had never had to ring first & 2 locals who said they'd never heard of that before.
In the meantime the barman was bullying a waitress
If you don't already go there every night, don't bother because you're not welcome. You're not missing much, anyway.
