I thought that going along Fenchurch Street from the East India Arms to the Elephant was a backward step in quality. Continuing on to the Wine Lodge proved a further backward step. The beer range was slightly better - Harveys Sussex Best, Youngs Original and Adnams Bitter. But the decor was too modern and the brown painted walls made it all rather dull and characterless. Large images of London brightened up the place slightly. But the crowd of guffawing City workers didn't appeal to me and the barmaid could only be described as dopey. A horse racing channel seemed to be a strange thing to be showing on the bar's 2 TV screens. One to avoid if you like you like to drink in a pub with a bit of character.

Popped in at lunch time from work. Good range of ales, including Youngs, Harveys and (a fine pint of) Black Sheep. Reasonable meeting spot with food served downstairs. $ky TV upstairs.

3.50 fora Scotch egg !! Beer was okay but not good enough to make me go in here again. Didn't like the way the plate was snatched away directly we had finished eating. Not my cup of tea.

First visit since re-opening and its hard to spot the difference apart from characters behind the bar. Good range of Real Ale (Youngs, Sheps & Harveys). Worth a visit but wouldn't go out of my way to find when there's better pubs nearby.

Now re-opened under private onwership. Similar to old format - with restaurant downstairs. Good beer (Youngs + 1 other). Recommended.
