A bit more down to earth than the Met opposite. Pints are almost 1.50 less. Holts beer though so not the most exciting but it does do a fair few ales. Also quite an interesting interior with signs around that it was an old railway station.

Enjoyed a decent pint of Holt's black. Decent location and one of the better quality Holt's we've visited.

Hooray! The Railway is under new management and is back to its best! Everything, from the atmosphere to the cleanliness to the beer, is top notch again. I used to drink here (and do the occasional shift), but I wrote the pub off after the previous manager took over. The place was filthy, the lines were rarely - if ever - cleaned, and landlord was more interested in making a quick buck than protecting the interests of the staff and the regulars. I hope word gets around that the place is under new management, and that everyone who was exiled from the Railway during this era soon returns.

If you wish to steer clear of Steve Smith, the previous landlord (as referred to in the posts from 15th April 2009 and 10th Feb 2009), then I advise you to avoid The Griffin - his new pub - on Didsbury Road. It's amazing how some people tend to fail upwards.

Used to be a fantastic pub, but concur with view expressed by last poster. The new landlord has dramatically reduced the quality of the pub. I was once a regular, last time I visited the new guy was rude and aggressive and looks like he is spoiling a decent locals pub.

The Railway is ok but even though it's a nice enough pub it's far too small and because of this it's always packed. I'd probably go more often if it was a bit bigger.
