user reviews of the Vaults, Devizes

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Had this place recommended by someone on the local campsite that had been the night before. He had good taste. A great choice of beers from 4-8% on pump and a few crafty ones on tap. Had a couple of the paddles/flights to try them all then went in for pints of my favourites. My one whinge would be that none of them were darker beers. Plenty of cans and bottles to tempt you too.

The Vaults looks a small unassuming place in the centre of Devizes. I'd parked outside it and hadn't even noticed it at first. Parking is free here after 6pm. The interior is long and narrow with very little seating. Ales are amongst the most unusual in Devizes. On this occasion there was Kennet & Avon Devizes Dark & Deep Lock, First Chop Manchester Bitter & Arbor 456. There were also 3 ciders from Worleys - Mendip Hills, Red Hen & Beatnik Billy. In addition, there is a good selection of craft beers and an even better bottled range with a bottle shop in the cellar. Prices for some of these can be steep. But the real cider pricing was reasonable. Pies are available from a heated cabinet behind the bar. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the beers. Not a pub in the strictest sense. But a bar dispensing probably the best range of drinks in Devizes. Therefore one of the three best pubs in Devizes.

A new and bold venture in a town dominated ny Wadworths,so it was a nice change to find some local (and some not so local ales on handpump). This is a long narrow bar which does indeed have the feel of a vault and I think they have a basement room as well? Cheery helpful service and our Titanic and Tiny Rebel beers were superb. Newspapers available and they have a large selection of bottled beers as well as draught (the bar is owned by the new Kennet & Avon Brewery whose beers are only available in bottle at the moment. We enjoyed it and went back for last hours as they close early in the evening (around 9pm from memory). Recommended especially as a change from Waddies.
