A Tuesday night visit not knowing that is was quiz night and boy is it popular. Myself and a pal didn't enter the quiz as it was already half way through when we arrived but we semi joined in without annoying anyone!

4 ales on the 5 hand pumps , with my several pints of Sambrook's Brown Dog Riot @ 4.5% all being on good form. Not normally I brewery I like but this ale was very good.

Food was popular and the smell of burgers did linger a bit around the bar, not something I normally like but I suppose with it being busy it kind of blended in and felt right.

I like this place but a couple of pals always complain about the prices so I don't visit as often as I'd like to.

Mis match furniture and spartan decor as is the Antic Pub Chains way but it works here as the pub doesn't have too many exposed walls or a damp smell.

Gets a decent score from me.

Slerpy - maybe because it was a 1960's Post Office?

I may have been unlucky but the beer quality has never been good on my visits. It resembles a 1970's Post Office museum inside and outside.

I have to admit to quite liking Antic pubs. They are very individual in their interiors, yet follow a common theme that makes them feel welcoming and atmospheric. The Sylvan Post is a former post office with some very interesting tiny snugs. I sat in the main bar area, where there are some very basic tables anc chairs. A number of families were in and the food appeared to be popular. I was content with the ale range that was quite varied - Gipsy Hill Bounder, Ilkley Scary Spice, Twickenham Autumn Red, Volden Vim & Signature Session. I went for the only non-London beer - the Scary Spice, which was a rather nice pumpkin ale. A selection of board games was prominent. Well worth a visit if in Forest Hill and is just up the hill from the station.

Small back room much more atmospheric than the open-floor bar room. Not as busy as I'd expected - is the Antic formula becoming that bit too formulaic???
