A strange set up to be sure. As soon as I sat on a stool by the bar a foreign waitress appeared on my side of the bar with some sort of hand held device and asked me if I wanted to order, I asked for a pint (Bath Ales) and she tapped this into the device.
A waited and waited until a foreign bar man (on the other side of the bar) asked me if I was being served. I told him the waitress had taken my order and the two of them discussed the matter between themselves.Eventually the barman poured the drink and handed it over. The waitress then asked me if I wanted to pay her or the barman. Since she was quite pretty I decided to pay her and gave her the money. She handed this to the barman who rang it into the till and gave the change to the waitress who was standing next to me, and she in turn gave it to me. 5 minutes for 2 staff to serve 1 pint of beer.
Well I suppose it provides employment for foreigners, and to be honest the place was empty so they had nothing else to do, but still, very strange indeed.
Oh the beer wasn''t too bad and a nice looking bar / restaurant.

Service was good if a little formal. Not to impressed with tribute but I did see them changing beers over so I may have got end of barrel. Not sure if this is a bar, restaurant or hair salon in terms of decor.
I would return here I think but not my style place.
I enjoyed the local lager, very nice to see the English producing lagered beers as well as ales. Being flemish I have a love for most styles of beer and find the English have a natural ability when it comes to beer to high standards.

This place somehow has a rating of 7 even though no one has made any comments on it yet. Essentially it markets itself as a chic fashionable bar catering for the well heeled of Taunton. It's attached to the Castle Hotel and shares their kitchen. It is all very stylish, stainless steel and chrome, with huge fish tanks set into the walls and (now somewhat dated) star lights in the ceiling. Lots of pretty girls work there, seemingly chosen because of their looks rather than any other talent, although the service is reasonable, no more. The is a poncey foreign type who minces around the place, seemingly in charge. It's horrendously expensive, both food and drink but the quality is not guaranteed. They do sell cask ale from time to time, usually from St Austell, but this is rarely drinkable and at prices approaching 3.50 not worth the risk.
They also have music from time to time, Jazz, usually on a Sunday, but this like everything else about the place (its a bar, not a pub) is bland.
Probaly the most impressive thing is the hand drier in the toilets which feels like standing under a harrier jump jet.
