The Cock Inn is a fine example of a well run country pub, although I believe this was not always the case as there were issues with the previous incumbents which almost led to the pub being closed by Punch taverns. But fortunately it was taken over by one of the locals (the daughter of a local farmer I believe) and it is now back to being a solid country pub serving the local village community and it was being well supported by the locals when I visited on Saturday evening.
There are three handpumps on the bar. Two of these were the ubiquitous GK IPA and Sharps Doombar. But the third usually dispenses a beer from the Villages own Microbrewery, The Saffron Brewery, which is a one man band of an operation housed in old farm buildings almost opposite the pub. And on my visit this was Saffron Blond, a very pleasant golden ale.
The pub is also dog and walker friendly, although for the benefit of the earlier posting canine phobes, dogs are not allowed in the restaurant area (I believe walkers are!).

Big hooray for this pub, arrived at 11:30 and was expecting to have to hang around until it opened at 12, but it had opened early for a Royal Wedding party. Sat in the garden with an excellent pint of DoomBar and avoided the nuptuals!

Came here for Sunday Lunch yesterday, excellent Roast Beef, perfectly cooked and under a tenner! Don't mind dogs or the kids running around in the garden, I'd rather have that than see a great village pub like this going out of business because of lack of trade like so many others have done. Oh and the staff were friendly and coped well with the high volume of customers.

Walk to this pub with the dog, it's about 8 miles from where I live so makes a nice first stop. Dogs are barred from the main dining area but are allowed in the two smaller bar areas (what in the old days would have been called the public bar or the snug) so you can eat without fear of dog bollox licking!
Walk from here to the Fleur De Lys in Widdington, then on to the Coach and Horses in Newport, then get the train back.

I'd say the same thing about children; not about licking their bollox you understand, but about knocking off a couple of points for pubs that have feral kids running amok.
