user reviews of Ship Inn, Mirfield

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

On a Sunday lunchtime we had to wait over an hour for our food to arrive. I got Roast beef Sunday lunch, it consisted of frozen pre-made Yorkshire pud and frozen roast potatoes, canned carrots and peas with pre sliced warmed up beef gone cold. My husband got mixed grill which was cold and burnt. he knocked on the table with his gammon it was so hard and crispy impossible to chew. My toddler son got fish sticks which were so hard and burnt he could not bite them (also cold). We complained and just got an apology. We felt if we demanded things were sent back it would be another hour and we were all starving by then so didn't risk it. A sign went up after we had eaten saying their warming facilities had a technical fault (a response to all the complaining about the cold food?) We shared a table with my brother and his family. They ordered just ahead of us in the queue but got their food and ate it all before ours even arrived. My cousin got a sizzling skillet meal and the skillet was cold, you could touch it with bare hands, obviously it had been sat on the side in the kitchen for half an hour. The waiting staff were very apologetic and I felt sorry for them, it was obviously the kitchen staff and equipment that was rubbish. The pub decor itself is nice and clean and the play area for kiddies is great. It is such a shame the food lets it down, we would never go again. On the way home a couple of hours later I got a bad stomach upset (I have a very strong stomach normally but suspect it was the warmed up pre-sliced beef that caused it).
