user reviews of the Plough, Fen Ditton

Beer garden very busy on a sunny Sunday. Three ales on tap - Broadside, a golden Samuel Adams beer and Doom Bar.
Went for the latter and although it wasn't the cheapest pint I'd ever had, at least it was well kept. Not always the case since Doom Bar became so ubiquitous and pubs which can't keep ale started serving it.
Food looked nice, albeit a bit pricey.
Decent place to sit in the sunshine with a pint, although was roasting indoors.

Nice pub, can get very busy and staff are not always as switched on as I would expect them to be. Can't be beaten for its garden along the river though, cold beer and watching the rowers and cylclists on a summer day is pretty special. Have eaten bar menu at luchtime and also the evening menu on special occasion and the food has always been pretty good to be honest. Overall a nice pub but try and avoid it at the busiest times as it is rammed.

Beer: Very short pint of Doombar. Quoting staff: "it's the head". Grudging top-up so I had a quarter of an inch of foam instead of half an inch. There were floaties in the beer - probably not cleaning their lines properly.

Food: Several items looked like they'd been sitting under heat-lamps for half an hour. Though the burgers were reported to be OK.

Location: Very nice, beautiful in the sun by the river.

Conclusion: Not dire... but severely lacking. You're better off in an average Wetherspoons for beer and food.

A very popular pub next to the river. It was very busy on Sunday with people having their Sunday lunch. the staff were very good. The building is smart and lawns outside are perfect for a summertime drink.
