A very smart country pub offering 3 local real ales and dome excellent food, the staff werre efficient and friendly and the pub was comfortable with no music or televisions. It is now a community pub and is run more as a restaurant with bar than a bar with restaurant, but despite that they were very welcoming to 3 sweaty, tired cyclists

its posh, maybe too posh to be an actual pub that you'd spend a night in drinking with mates, but its really good none the less.

the beer selection is the best in the area, every single beer (lager inlcuded) is local or at least regional. the wine selection also top shelf, as you'd expect with the owners other business being a fancy pants wine bistro in nearby wendover.

the new malt brewery and the chilterns ales are the 2 local brands on tap, and are superbly kept and poured. the cotsolwds beers are great too.

service is keen and knowledgable and friendly, so despite the emphasis being largely on eating, its still well worth popping in just for a few superb pints.

After a trip to newly opened Malt Brewery in Prestwood, I popped in here with some pals on the Friday after Christmas.

Owned by Butlers Cross residents (I believe) and run by the people from No 2 Pound Street Deli in Wendover, I would recommend this pub very highly.

It was busy, but the lad behind the bar found time to chat to us about the cask and keg beer that he was serving. This place prides itself on providing local ales and there can't be many better locations than mid-Bucks for choice.

Beers from Rebellion and Chiltern were well kept and served. Beers from the 10 week old Malt Brewery had been on the bar as well. We were offered samples of the beers before we had a chance to ask for them; great service. Further tasters of their Dark Lager and a cask beer from the cellar that was ready, but not on sale yet were brought to the table by the very affable chap behind the bar.

We ordered from the bar menu and it's fair to say the light meals we had were excellent.

Dog friendly and very popular with walkers, The Russell Arms is a cosy bolt hole from the Ridgeway Path or Coombe Hill.

All in all, very nice indeed and it won't be long before I'm back in there.

Good luck to the new owners (the residents of Butlers Cross). I hope all goes well.
I would also expect to see a vast improvement, making it worth calling in again.

Two beers on tap, no lagers other than bottled. Came for Sunday lunch; service was painfully slow (1 hr 50 mins until the main courses arrived - and the pub wasn't busy, and all the other tables had a similar wait). Food was ok, when it arrived, but we won't be coming back.
