user reviews of Queen Victoria, Barnt Green

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Now calls itself simply 'The Victoria', and is a smart pub, claims to be part of a small chain (although decor looks exactly like the standard 'Vintage Inns' style). A visit in late September showed several cask ales on. Service (at a quiet time) was friendly and efficient.

Absolutely give this one a miss unless you just want a noisy pint before going somewhere else, or a quiet lunch. They absolutely ruined a diamond wedding celebration by over booking, duplicating booking, foregtting booking, or whatever excuse. In a nutshell, we booked for 17, gave them the food list beforehand, took flowers and balloons for the table in the day yet they could not seat us till after 9 pm despite being told we could not have it at 8 as this was too late and it would have to be 7.15 !! a shambles, the bill was reduced but that was no cpmpenation, a once in a lifetime ocassion ruined. Too busy catering for local trade, who have only a choice of 2 pubs

Changed hands, again !

Now upmarket prices and hardly anywhere to sit/stand if you just want a drink. Most locals have now moved back to the BGI or joined the Social Club next door.

Latest wheeze is that they are inviting people to bring their kids who "eat for free".

That means that my meal price is set to cover the food of other peoples sprogs who will then run around screaming whilst we try to enjoy a meal.

Thanks - but no thanks.

Give this a miss . The prices are about the same as the Barnt Green Inn with none of the atmosphere.

Recently changed hands as it had gone downhill. It had had a makeover some 3 years or so ago but still attracted the same crowd that let it down in the end - chavs and builders etc in dirty clothes.

It has now gone up market (i.e. more expensive and some dress rules) but still feels wrong - the layout has been changed but the two levels conspire against an atmosphere - perhaps its cursed ! - it was originally built as a Temperance Hall !

Wish it luck though.
