Village pub that seems to be aimed at diners, with all of the tables laid out, and mostly reserved. There is however quite a bit of room, for those just wanting a drink, it certainly isn't cramped.
Food very good, would recommend their shoulder of mutton. Has a selection of real ales and also does Stella.

Up until I went into this pub, about a seven months ago, I would have said the best pub in the area was The Scotts Arms( a couple of miles away ), but not any more! Although all signs that point to Kirkby Overblow will give directions to The Star and Garter...and my advice is to avoid that place like the plague, it's one of the worst pubs I've ever been in. Instead go across the street to The Shoulder of Mutton. I'd don't what it used to be like and I don't much care because now it's one of the best pubs I've ever been in.
It's not a big as other pubs in the area but don't let that fool you, it's how it looks and what they serve that counts. The food there is easily up and beyond any gasro pub that I've been to...I can easily recommend the rib eye steak with Dauphanoise potatoes! The decour is country pub cosy, but not over done. The wine list is extensive and the staff are always willing to let you try a taste to see if it's to your palet. If you're a real fan then you need look no further. The beer is kept to perfection. It sells the best Taylors Landlord I've ever tasted , and if your lucky enough to have Liz, the manageress, serve you it will not only taste good but will be a thing of beauty to behold...exactly as a pint should be.
The beer garden, out the back, is nice a private with well kept lawns...perfect for a summers day/eve.
If you live locally chances are you'll already know about it, cos it can get busy in the evenings with food service...so remember to book in advance. But if you live in Leeds or Harrogate then trust me it is well worth the time out to visit.
